How it works ?
20
Copyright © 2017, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. |
• Same Services as Exadata on Public Cloud – Includes Exadata HW (X6) & SW, Database SW
– Oracle Database 11.2.0.4 or 12.1.0.2 with Grid Infrastructure 12.1.0.2
– Oracle Database 12.2.0.1 with Grid Infrastructure 12.2.0.1
– All database options and features, Exadata features, DB Management Packs
• Oracle Cloud Machine (OCM) required to deploy cloud stack software (Exadata Cloud Control Plane) – One OCM can manage multiple ExaCMs in same metro region
– OCM can be leveraged to deploy cloud services such as JCS, ICS, DBCS etc. to bring full stack cloud to customer
• Start with minimal cores within a rack, scale as needed – Minimum: 16 cores, enable additional cores on demand
– Dozens of terabytes of storage, hundreds of thousands of IOs per second
– Can expand to 100s of cores, 100s of TB storage, Millions of IOPs

Management & Maintenance
• Customers control and manage software that directly affects their application
– Database, OS, Clusterware
• Oracle manages underlying infrastructure
– Facilities, servers, storage, storage software, networking, firmware, hypervisor, etc.
• Customers have administrator privileges for compute VMs and databases so they can configure and run the system as they like
– Customers initiate automated database update script when it is convenient for them
– Can be run rolling across nodes to avoid database downtime

ExaCM and ExaCS Differences
• Cloud for data that must remain on-premises (think latency, secrecy, regulatory, compliance)
• Cloud for data with no Oracle Public Cloud in-country
• A substantial, but safe, step toward the Public Cloud
• Use existing backup Infrastructure, existing staff, processes
• Seamless transition to Oracle Public Cloud when ready – no software or skills changes needed
• Cloud for data that can be moved off-site. Test/Dev, POC, Mission critical systems that do not require
complex integration with on-prem applications
• Offers DR environment without incurring a cost of building or running a data center
• Very fast provisioning, complete isolation from other tenants and no over provisioning
Benefits / Reasons to chose one v other
