Join us for a two-day symposium to celebrate the work and achievements of the Vector Institute’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, who earlier this year received the 2018 ACM A.M. Turing Award alongside Drs. Yoshua Bengio and Yann LeCun for their pioneering work on artificial neural networks.

The 2018 ACM A.M. Turing Award is computing’s highest honour and considered the “Nobel Prize” of Computer Science. The award celebrates scientists and engineers for propelling the field forward and making a significant technical impact.

As a Vector Institute Industry Sponsor, you are invited to sponsor this one-of-a-kind event featuring Dr. Geoffrey Hinton’s Turing Award lecture and a four-decade tour of his career and collaborators. The event will bring together an audience of 400 both local and global machine learning experts and business leaders in AI from across Canadian industry.

VALUE FOR EVENT SPONSORS • Demonstrate your company’s AI leadership amongst Canada’s AI influencers, executives, top AI talent, researchers, media, and thinkers and doers

• Network with top machine learning talent by showcasing your company’s AI career opportunities, research, projects, and data

• Develop relationships with potential partners and collaborators to enhance your AI activities and profile

• Show your company’s support in honouring Dr. Geoffrey Hinton’s receipt of the 2018 ACM A.M. Turing Award

• Learn about the latest research, trends, and innovations in AI

• Promote your brand amongst Canadian and global AI leaders

SYMPOSIUM DAY 1 OCT 16 Sheraton Centre Hotel, 123 Queen St. West, Toronto8am – 4pm

The symposium will feature technical talks by collaborators and peers of Dr. Geoffrey Hinton as well as industry lab leaders.

AUDIENCE Estimated 500 local and global invited machine learning researchers and students.

PROGRAMDr. Geoffrey Hinton’s Turing Award LectureEarlier this year, Dr. Hinton received the 2018 ACM A.M. Turing Award – often referred to as the “Nobel Prize” of computer science – alongside Drs. Yoshua Bengio and Yann LeCun for their pioneering work in artificial neural networks. Dr. Hinton is Chief Scientific Advisor at the Vector Institute, VP and Engineering Fellow of Google, University Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto and Advisor; Learning in Machines & Brains, CIFAR.

Radford M. Neal completed his PhD under Dr. Hinton’s supervision in 1994 and introduced a method to estimate the degree of certainty in predictions made by deep learning models. Dr. Neal’s foundational work continues to have a significant influence in the field today. Dr. Neal is Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto.

George Dahl completed his PhD under Dr. Hinton’s supervision in 2015 and was the first to successfully apply deep learning to speech recognition. Dr. Dahl also led the team that won the Merck challenge to help develop safe and effective medicine by predicting molecular activity. He is currently a research scientist on Google’s Brain team in California.
