POWER OPTIONSPlease read instructions in this manual regarding operation for this device.

AT HOME (Using AC Power)1. Make sure the power cord is unplugged

and the power switch is in the OFF position.

2. Inspect the unit, including the powercord, for any damage. Contact CareProvider to have any damaged partsreplaced.

3. Set the VacuMax on a level, sturdy surface so the controls of the unit canbe easily reached and adjusted.

4. Connect suction tubing, elbow and filterassembly to the outlet on the regulatorand inlet on the collection jar as shownon page 3. Make sure the tubing fromthe collection jar is connected to the‘Fluid Side’ of the hydrophobic filter.Make sure all tubing connections andthe collection jar lid are pushed on tightto ensure a proper vacuum level isachieved.

5. Connect the AC power cord located onthe back of the unit to a standard 110VAC wall outlet.

6. Turn the switch to the ON position. Thered LED on the switch will turn on.

7. Set suction level by simultaneouslyoccluding the outlet of the collection jarand turning the regulator knob until therequired suction registers on the gauge.Turn the regulator clockwise to increasevacuum and counter-clockwise todecrease vacuum. Observe the vacuumlevel on the unit’s gauge.

8. Attach the non conductive connectingtubing to the outlet on the suction jar.

9. Attach your catheter (not included) tothe connecting tubing.

10. Proceed with the treatment.11. At the conclusion of the treatment, turn

the switch to the OFF position.

AWAY FROM HOME (Using internal/external DC power)

External DC Power1. Make sure the DC power cord is

unplugged and the power switch is inthe OFF position.

2. Inspect the unit, including the DC powercord and DC Connector, for any damage.Contact Care Provider to have any damaged parts replaced.

NOTEThe in-line hydrophobic filter is designed to preventforeign material frombeing drawn into the compressor. At a minimum,change the filter wheneverforeign material is drawninto the tubing.

NOTE Operating the VacuMaxdevice without thehydrophobic filter canresult in damage to theinternal components of thedevice and will void thewarranty. The hydrophobicfilter should be replacedmonthly and/or betweenclients, whichever is sooner.

NOTEDo not move VacuMax witha full collection jar. Liquidsmay flow back through thedevice resulting in damageto the internal componentsof the compressor.

Internal DC Power: BatteryFollow instructions in the Battery Chargingsection of this manual to learn about theproper procedure to optimize the life ofyour battery. Please make sure the batteryis charged before each treatment.1. Make sure the power switch is in the

OFF position.2. Inspect the unit for any damage.

To properly charge the internal battery, giving it the longest life possible, pleaseread and follow the directions below.

1. To charge the battery, connect the unitto an external power source (either a110V AC, or a 12V DC external power source). Set the power switch to the OFFposition. The OFF position is also the charging position. The power switch will

not light while the battery is charging.

2. To fully charge the battery, eight hoursof charging is necessary. However, if theuser does not have time to fully chargethe battery, the unit should still becharged as long and as often as timepermits. Full discharge will shorten battery life. The battery will not bedamaged by overcharging undernormal use.

3. It is not recommended for the batteryto stay discharged or unused for a longperiod of time (60 days or more).Charge the battery at least onceevery two months.

POWER SWITCH CONSIDERATIONSWhile in use, a flashing power switch alertsthe user that the battery is exhausted andanother power source must be used inplace of the battery. A new, fully chargedbattery should last about 45 minutes.

Battery Charging & Maintenance

NOTEIt is normal for rechargeablebatteries to lose capacityand useful life over time.Life expectancy of batterywill depend on number of uses and proper maintenance.

NOTECharging the battery inyour vehicle without theengine running may drainthe vehicle’s battery.

CAUTION

2. Unplug the aspirator from the wall outlet.

3. Wipe the aspirator with a clean, dampcloth every 2-3 days. This will keep theunit dirt and dust free.

TUBING AND COLLECTION JAR1. Verify the device is turned OFF and

allow the suction to drop off.2. Disconnect the tubing from the

collection jar and from the device.3. Rinse the tubing and collection jar

thoroughly with three parts hot tapwater and one part vinegar.

4. Rinse the parts with hot tap water andallow them to air dry.

5. Reconnect the tubing and hydrophobicfilter between the collection jar and the device.

NOTA

All maintenance on your VacuMax systemmust be performed by an authorized CHADservice center.

UNIT AIR FILTER CHANGEVacuMax contains an external air filterlocated on the back of the device. This filter requires periodic replacing to ensurethe proper function of the device. It is recommended that this filter be changedmonthly or sooner, depending on the cleanliness of the operating environment. To replace the filter, follow the steps below:

1. Remove the filter cap by unscrewing counterclockwise.

2. Remove the filter from the cap andreplace it with a new one.

3. Screw the cap back on.

Maintenance

NOTE

Should fluid be aspiratedback into the unit, dealerservice is necessary as possible compressor damage may result.

NOTE

Operating the VacuMaxwithout the hydrophobic filter may allow fluids toenter the compressor causing damage to its internal components.

WARNINGTo reduce the risk of electricshock, always unplug thepower cord from the powersource before servicing.

Maintenance

SUCTION TUBING/COLLECTIONJAR/HYDROPHOBIC FILTERThe suction tubing, collection jar andhydrophobic filter supplied with theVacuMax are recommended for singlepatient use and should be replaced at aminimum between patients and as perphysician order. If the filter gets wet, itmust be replaced.

HYDROPHOBIC FILTERREPLACEMENT1.Disconnect the tubing from both ends of

the filter. Discard the old filter.2.Attach the new filter so the tubing from

the suction jar is connected to the ‘fluidside’ of the filter. Connect the tubingfrom the pump to the opposite side ofthe filter.

FUSE CHANGEA 2A fuseis located on the back of thedevice. It protects the device from powersurges that can occur in the home andfrom exposing this device to a wrong powersource. To replace the fuse, unscrew thefuse holder on the back of the device. Takeout the old fuse, insert the new fuse andscrew the holder back on.

Todo tipo de mantenimiento del sistemaVacuMax deberá ser efectuado por un centro de servicios CHAD autorizado.

CAMBIO DEL FILTRO DE AIRE DE LA MÁQUINAEl VacuMax está equipado con un filtro deaire externo ubicado en la parte posteriordel dispositivo. El filtro debe cambiarse periódicamente para que el dispositivo funcione debidamente. 1. Replace the filter ortubing following directions in this manual.

2. Set regulator followingoperating instructions.

3. Examine the tubingand connectors forpossible leaks. Attach,tighten, or replacetubing as necessary.Make sure the jar lid is on tightly as well.

2. Contact your dealer or the CHAD servicecenter.

3. Disconnect tubingfrom the collection jarand turn on thedevice.

4. Charge battery following batterycharging instructions

5. Contact your dealer orthe CHAD ServiceCenter

Replace gauge.

Connect tubing to thesuction jar and adjust theregulator.

MANGUERAS DE SUCCIóN/RECIPIENTE RECOLECTOR/FILTROHIDROFóBICOLas mangueras de succión, el recipienterecolector y el filtro hidrofóbico que se suministran con el VacuMax deben ser utilizados por un solo paciente, ser reemplazados entre pacientes, como mínimo, ysegún lo ordene el médico. Si se moja el filtro,debe reemplazarse.

CAMBIO DEL FILTRO HIDROFóBICO 1.Desconecte las mangueras de ambos

extremos del filtro. Deseche el filtro usado.2.Coloque el filtro nuevo de modo que las

mangueras del recipiente de succión esténconectadas al “fluid side” (lado de líquidos)del filtro. Conecte las mangueras de labomba al lado opuesto del filtro.

CAMBIO DEL FUSIBLEUn fusible de 2 A se encuentra ubicado en laparte posterior del dispositivo. Protege al dispositivo de sobrecargas repentinas quepuedan presentarse en casa y de las fuentesequivocadas a las que pueda exponerse. Paracambiar el fusible, desenrosque el sujetador del fusible en la parte posterior del dispositivo.Retire el fusible viejo, introduzca el nuevo yreponga el sujetador enroscándolo.

CHAD warrants the VacuMax portable aspirator to be free from defective workmanship and materials for a period of1 year from the date of purchase. Theinternal battery shall be warranted for aperiod of 3 months from the date of purchase. This warranty is limited to the dealer. Any defective part or assembly willbe repaired or replaced, at the sole discretion and determination of CHAD if theunit has not been misused or tamperedwith during the warranty period. Normalmaintenance items, as outlined in thismanual and disposable components arenot covered by this warranty. Shippingcharges, if any, shall be paid by the purchaser.
