The delicate ting of a bell followed by the serenity of a gentle piano and light drums creates a welcoming bed for Evie Archer’s warm vocals to softly alight upon. Her tender melody caries the heartfelt lyrics of a touching story.

“On Christmas Day” was written and performed by Evie Archer and produced by multi Grammy winner, Gary Katz [Steely Dan]. Right from the beginning, the song was special; it started off as a gift.

“That’s absolutely right,” the songwriter confirmed in a recent phone conversation. “‘On Christmas Day' started off as something very personal, it was a gift for my parents.”

Archer’s parents always appreciated the time and talent that went into creating handcrafted presents. When Evie was without a job and she was trying to find that special Christmas gift for the people who had raised her, she decided to write a song for them.

“While I was thinking about what it should be about,” the artist recalled, “it just sort of turned into a song about not being able to be with the one you love at Christmas. I was going to be with my parents, so it was just written from the perspective of someone who couldn’t be with the person she loved on Christmas.”

Besides being a moving message on it’s own, the sentiment driving Archer’s lyrics was also a perfect fit for Full Circle Home, an organization that helps deployed troops send their love and thanks back home for Christmas.

“The song embodied Full Circle Home’s mission,” Evie explained, “so they made this beautiful video to go with the song [You can watch the video, here.]. It was so amazing that the song was meaningful to people other than my parents and me . . . the fact that other people could find solace in it was incredible and it meant a lot to me!”
