Chapter Summary E-24Larraine moved into her brother Beaker’s trailer. She forgot about a welfare meeting, and her food stamps
were cut off. (pg.167)
Lenny was responsible for collecting rent from trailer park residents. He received a cash bonus from the
park owner based on the amount of rent he collected. (pg.170)
New management company Bieck Management fired Lenny and Susie. Trailer park owner Tobin Charney
made an annual income of $447,000 and belonged to the top 1% of income-earners. Most of his tenants
belonged to the bottom 10%. (pg.176)

Chapter 14When a man dies in the trailer park, D.P. and Scott are hired to clean out the trailer.
Scott realizes that “drugs explained a lot about the world...” (178). He simplifies evictions at the trailer park in his own opinion “...evictions were deserved, understood to be the outcome of individuals failure” (179). Scott is fired by Mira. Scott’s life spirals out of control. Drugs take toll on his life. He calls his mom sobbing and his mom says he can come home to Iowa (183). Scott decides instead, to go to rehab. The facility only takes 5 people per day (185). He is not chosen and as a result, he goes on a “three-day bender” (185).
Larraine has to ask her neighbors if she can use their shower and she has to explain to her neighbors why her gas was shut off in the first place. She has to open herself up to her faults. Rose has her children taken by Child Protective Services and is comforted by all of the trailer park residents.
Chapter 14Other Information: “...people who lived in distressed neighborhoods were more likely to help their neighbors pay bills, buy groceries, fix their car, or lend a hand in other ways, compared to their peers in better off areas.” (181)
“Poor neighborhoods provided their residents with quite a lot...when the best food pantries were open, how to apply for [Supplemental Security Income] ”(181).

Chapter 15
Chapter 15 - CharactersCrystal: Tenant - Trisha is good friends with Crystal
Arleen: Tenant, has two kids 5 and 13 years of age.
Sherrena: Landlord, bought food for Arleen and her kids when they first moved in.
Chris: Boyfriend of Trisha, early in the chapter beats on Trisha up stairs.
Trisha: Tenant, in a abusive relationship with Chris.
Chapter 15
What happens in Ch. 15-
-Chris is upstairs fighting with Trisha, Arleen didn’t want to get involved but Crystal wouldn’t settle for Chris abusing Trisha, the police came to take chris away (187). - Because of all of the continuous police calls it became a problem - Sherrena was threatened by the Milwaukee police department to get fined/cost of every call made or she could be put in jail, sent eviction notice to police department (188). Arleen could stay until Thursday unless Crystal refused to stay in a different property of Sherrena’s (193). -Had to kick out Arleen by Monday, Arleen does not take the news well and goes into a rage (194). Crystal tells Arleen it’s gonna be ok, goes to look at Sherrenas other property (196).
Chapter 16
Chapter 16-CharactersSherrena- Landlord, rents to Kamala.

Kamala- Rents from Sherrena and Quentin.
Devon- Kamala’s husband, tenant.
Chapter 16-SummaryKamala rents an apartment from Sherrena at 18th and Wright. One night it catches fire.(199) The fire is started when one of Kamala’s daughters gets out of bed and knocks a lamp over.(202) The apartment is completely destroyed.(203) In the fire Kamala’s youngest daughter (eight months old) dies.(201) This is the second child they have lost, their daughter being stillborn just a year prior.(201)
