Everything you want to know about quadratics...but were afraid to ask!
Quadratic Function: a function that can be written in the standard form of:
• a quadratic has a degree of 2
• the graph of a quadratic is called a parabola
• the "a" value tells if the graph opens up or down and if it is skinny (a stretch) or fat (a compression)
if the a > 0, opens up (minimum value)if the a < 0, opens down (maximum value)
if a > 1, it's skinnyif 0 < a < 1, it's fat
The axis of symmetry is a line that divides the parabola into mirror images and passes through the vertex. To find it?
This is also the x value of the vertex. To find the y value of the vertex, substitute "x" into the function
The "y" value of the vertex is the max or min value
***keep in mind the vertex is a point (you need an "x" and a "y") But the max or min value is only the "y" value of the vertex!***
**the domain (all possible x values) of a quadratic function is always {R} (set notation) or (∞,∞) interval notation
** the range is all possible y values (be able to write it using either notation)
