What is SculpSure?

Cynosure’s SculpSure is a FDA-approved non-invasive, laser lipolysis treatment to reduce fat. It uses precise hyper thermic energy or in layman’s terms, heat to target and eliminate fat cells. It uses a 1060nm Diode laser to raise the temperature of the fat cells, once heated the injured cells are ejected from the adipose tissue. These ejected and damaged fat cells are filtered off by the body over the course of several weeks and months. During treatment the surface skin is receiving cooling to protect the skin and it offers a more comfortable treatment experience. Because fat heats up faster than it freezes a SculpSure treatment takes a fraction of the time Cool Sculpting does. The SculpSure device has four laser applicators that lay flat on the skin, so there is no uncomfortable suction involved. Additionally, because the applicators lay flat on the skin, SculpSure can treat smaller problem areas (you don’t have to have pinchable fat to be treated). These applicators can also treat a larger surface area. It takes twenty-five minutes; total; to run the four applicators. The number of applicators needed will depend on the area(s) you are having treated. Patients have reported feeling sensations of warmth, tingling and/or a cramping feeling during treatment that ranged from intense to mild. Overall, the SculpSure procedure is well tolerated by patients, the short treatment time helps.

Following SculpSure treatment you may have some mild tenderness in the area, but no pain or bruising has been reported. You are able to return to normal activity immediately. Several treatments may be necessary to achieve the best results. Similar to Cool Sculpting, results with SculpSure are not instant it does take weeks or even months to see a reduction in the treated area. The results are permanent. Cynosure, the makers of SculpSure, report up to a 24% fat reduction in the treatment area.

Q & A ABOUT SCULPSURE What to expect? When the treatment starts, initially you will feel a cooling sensation. This helps keep the skin comfortable during treatment. The cooling will be on the entire treatment, while the laser cycles on and off, raising the temperature of the fat cells. Most patients feel a deep warmth and/ or tingling sensation intermittently throughout the treatment which is generally well-tolerated2. After the 25-minute treatment is finished, you can resume your daily activities, as there is no post-treatment down time

What can I expect after the treatment?You can return to your normal activity right after the treatment. No surgery, no downtime. Most of my client’s report tenderness for up to 2 weeks post treatment. This is because it takes time for fat cells to evacuate in the lymphatic system and they can get stock together. It helps to massage the area 5 minutes twice a day to limit those. You can also feel bloated for a couple of weeks. The body needs a lot of water to help the elimination process.

Is SculpSure right for me? SculpSure is ideal for people with trouble spots, particularly those that seem resistant to diet and exercise.

How many treatments will I need? Every patient is different. Your treatment provider will develop a customized treatment plan to meet your desired goals. Most patients see the best results when they treat multiple areas. Ask your treatment provider about the treatment plan that is right for you.

What should I expect during the treatment? After we determine you are the right candidate we will carefully explain the procedure. It begins with a burst of cool air. SculpSure will bring the inner temperature up to 47 degrees at this point which is when fat cells can't survive and die. You will feel intense heat. This will feel like bad menstrual cramp or a Tattoo. You will be relieved by a cool air burst every 30 seconds making the procedure tolerable. It's not painful but it's not painless. I would describe it as "annoying". The procedure takes 25 minutes in total per area being treated. Depending of the area treated we can treat up to 3 treatments areas in one day. Often, I see lower belly button, upper belly, flanks, inner thigh or upper thighs.

When will I see results? Patients may start to see results as early as 6 weeks following treatment as the body begins to evacuate the destroyed fat cells, with optimal results usually seen at 12 weeks

How long will results last? Treated fat cells are destroyed during the treatment and will not regenerate.

How long before I can resume normal activities? There is no downtime with SculpSure, so you can have the treatment during your lunch hour and return to work immediately.

How does it compare to liposuction? Without performing an exam, it is difficult to determine what the best option is for you. However, there are some differences between these 2 treatments. SculpSure is a nice nonsurgical alternative to reduce fat in the treated area. It can take more than one treatment to get the result you desire. SculpSure is virtually painless. Liposuction will often give you the result you are looking for in one treatment. However, an invasive procedure is required, and the recovery is more involved with some downtime. Sculpsure can remove up to 24% of fat in the area treated whereas liposuction will on average remove more in one shot. The difference lies within the recovery time and risk for irregularities. Sculpsure has no down time and you must wait 3 months to see final results. With lipo you will have to wear a garment and wait about 6 weeks to see good results and up to 3 months for a bikini ready body. Lipo may have increased risk of irregularities because the procedure is performed by a human based on touch and sight while Sculpsure is evenly heating the area treated so you will likely have a more even result.

PRE & POST SCULPSURE SculpSure pre-treatment instructions:

• Avoid direct sun exposure to the treatment area 7 days before the treatment.

• Shower or bathe the day of treatment to prepare your skin for your SculpSure treatment. Your skin must be free of all lotions, creams and body oils.

• It’s a good idea to eat a small meal and drink a glass or two of water before your SculpSure treatment.

• If you have very thick hair in the area to be treated, please trim or shave the area at home before your SculpSure appointment.

• Be sure to discuss your medical history and any medications you take with your treatment provider.

SculpSure post-treatment instructions: • For maximum results, please follow these guidelines. • Gently massage the area twice a day for 5-10 minutes. Massage should

be continued until your next treatment or for 12 weeks if you have only one treatment.

• Staying well hydrated and engaging in light physical activity helps mobilize the disrupted fat for processing through the lymphatic system. We encourage you to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day and take a daily walk or continue your regular exercise routine.

• You may experience mildly pink or red skin, tenderness or discomfort, swelling, tissue firmness or nodules in the treated areas. These are all expected side effects that usually resolve within a few weeks.

• Tenderness may occur as early as the day of the treatment and can last up to two weeks.

• If needed, use a cold compress and/or acetaminophen to help relieve tenderness.

• You may resume your normal daily activities including exercise, immediately after your SculpSure treatment.

• Contact us if you have any concerns about your treatment areas such as increasing tenderness or swelling several days after your treatment, or also if you develop blisters, hardened areas or nodules.

HOW SCULPSURE WORKS

SculpSure uses a laser to penetrate through the skin, without causing damage to the skin. In a SculpSure treatment, the first 4 minutes are spent warming the treatment area, with the laser working to heat up the fat cells under the skin. The next 21 minutes are spent with the laser cycling through 25 second warming phases and 10 second cooling phases. These cooling phases keep the laser from over- heating the skin, but ensure the fat cells stay heated to the optimal temperature during the treatment. The fat cells that are damaged during the treatment are cleared away by your lymphatic system, the same way your body heals itself from a cut or bruise, and are eliminated as waste over time.

The SculpSure laser, a 1060nm hyperthermic laser, was selected after years of research and development, because this exact wavelength provides the most specific heating of fat, without disrupting other tissues, including the skin.

Body contouring is among the most requested procedures in Canada! And winter is a great time to get started! With SculpSure it takes time for the full results to be seen so, the colder months are the perfect time to build your plan so you'll be ready for summer! SculpSure uses laser technology to reduce fat cells in targeted areas. The machine has four different hand pieces that work together on one part of the body or multiple areas during 1 treatment. We typically recommend 2 to 3 treatments and generally you can lose up to 23% of fat in the treatment area per session! It takes about 6 weeks for the body to remove the fat deposits after the procedure, with full results seen after about 12 weeks

1. Everyone requires a consultation. The consultation is essential for everyone. Not everyone is the perfect candidate. If you are a good candidate the price can run anywhere from $900 to $6,000. During your consultation you'll meet with me and we will discuss your eating, fitness and lifestyle habits. What are your goals? What areas do you want treated? We will discuss the results you can expect, the details of the procedure and treatment along with any post treatment requirements. We will also discuss the price per treatment and how many treatments will be required.

2. The advantages. • Patients generally see a reduction in body fat of around 20 to 25%; • No anaesthesia is required; • The results are permanent; • The technology is approved by Health Canada.

3. What to take in consideration. You don't need to change your habits to get results, but we want our clients to achieve the best long-lasting results possible. You need to consider this procedure the same as you would liposuction. The fat we kill won't come back but only you can control what happens after the treatment. If your nutrition and fitness is not on track, new fat cells can regenerate. Our nutritionist and fitness expert can help you maintain your results. We are covered under registered dietitian and naturopathic benefits to help you achieve your lifestyle goals. Some people will do this treatment as a motivational source. If this is what you want, we can help by holding you accountable for a 12-week period to make sure you reach your goals.

You will be able to start seeing results around the 6th week after the treatment was preformed and full results on the 12th week. We recommend the second treatment at the 6th week only, however you can treat as many areas as desired the same day. SculpSure has proven scientific results of 24% of fat cell reduction in the treated region in 1 treatment. I suggest 2 treatments for most of my clients.

7. How does it compare to liposuction? Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that improves body contour by removing fat cells between the skin and underlying muscles. SculpSure is a non-invasive laser treatment for the reduction of stubborn fat in areas like the abdomen and flanks. The procedure takes 25 minutes, is minimally painful and requires no downtime. Clinical trials show an average of 24% reduction in fat volume after a single treatment. Results from SculpSure can be impressive and give liposuction results at an equal budget without the down time. Sculpsure doesn’t remove excess skin. For a light skin sagginess, we can use our PelleFirm. We don’t cut skin, if you have excess skin only surgery will help.

8. My nutrition and workout routine aren’t perfect. Will I still see results? Yes, you will. You need to look at this the same way you would approach liposuction. Yes, you will get good results, but we can’t prevent you from gaining future fat. If you don’t change your lifestyle and gain more fat you could be disappointed with your results and would need future treatments again down the road. We suggest every client to meet with our nutritionist, personal trainer and lifestyle coach to stop the weight gain before investing in this procedure. Some people use SculpSure as a source of initial motivation. This is also a good option, but we want to know that you are willing to commit to a new lifestyle since we want the best results for all our clients.

9. How much will treatment cost? The procedure runs anywhere from $900 to $1200 per treatment. Usually two treatments per area is required. An area is considered being the lower belly, upper belly, flanks, outer thighs or inner thighs. If you decide to treat more than one area at a time this increases the price and time frame. A consultation is required to give you the exact price since we offer discounts and payment plans for more than two areas.

10. Follow up and maintenance. A second or even a third SculpSure treatment may be recommended to further refine the targeted area. Once the desired results are achieved, the effects are permanent and no additional SculpSure treatments are required. However, body contours can be toned and enhanced with PellaFirm performed every four months. The treatment can be complemented with Fractional Laser to help improve the appearance of stretch marks and creped skin.

11. Contraindications. Women who are pregnant or nursing should delay this procedure, as well as people with abdominal hernia. People need to wait 6 months after using Accutane.

SculpSure vs. CoolSculpting: An Inside Look at the World Leaders of Non-Invasive Fat Reduction So you’re looking for a non-invasive way to reduce fat and contour your body, but you’re a bit stymied by the options out there? We look at the two leaders in the category of non-invasive fat reduction treatments, CoolSculpting and SculpSure, to discover which one might be right for you.

What is CoolSculpting? CoolSculpting is a FDA-approved procedure from Zeltiq that delivers controlled cooling energy to freeze your fat cells. It is also called Cryolipolysis or fat freezing.

A suction-based applicator draws both the skin and underlying fat into the handpiece delivering cooling energy which over the course of the treatment time freezes and crystallizes the fat cells. Because suction has to be applied you

must have pinchable fat in order to have this treatment, someone with a small problem area may not be a candidate for this procedure.

Following treatment, which takes approximately 1 hour per area, the applicator is removed and the area looks similar to a stick of butter as the area has taken the shape of the applicator. The area is massaged to break and fragment the crystallized fat cells. These pieces are filtered and eliminated by the body over the course of several months.

How is CoolSculpting able to freeze the fat cells and not damage the skin? Well it’s because fat is more sensitive to temperature than your skin, so the fat cells freeze before the skin freezes. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that offers permanent results.

There is some discomfort associated with this procedure. Patients have reported discomfort with the suction applicator and during the freezing process. Most say it becomes numb after a period of time.

After the treatment is complete it is common to have soreness and bruising. You may also experience tingling or a burning sensation in the area once the nerves in the treated area awaken. Recovery really depends on the person, but it is marketed as a no down-time procedure.

The need for several treatments is common with most non-invasive fat reduction procedures including CoolSculpting. It is important to remember that results are not instant and it can take weeks or even months to see any change.

Okay, So Which One is Better? SculpSure, a newer technology, offers several advantages. First, it can target multiple areas at one time, which saves money and time. Treatment time is only 25 minutes. The laser also gives you the added benefit of skin tightening not offered by other fat reduction procedures. Meanwhile, CoolSculpting takes one hour or more and has no skin tightening effects.

Also, in CoolSculpting the applicator pulls and sucks in the skin, which means that areas to be treated must be limited to body areas large enough to be pinched by the applicator. In general, the suction applicator simply isn’t as precise as the SculpSure laser.

Patients of Coolsculpting have reported bruising and pain post procedure. Some patients have seen additional complications, such as nerve damage caused by extreme cold and uneven demarcation between treated and untreated areas.

Conversely, SculpSure lays flat on the skin and can treat a larger area at one time. Post procedure there is minimal tenderness; you are able to return to normal activity immediately with no bruising or pain. To date there have been no reports of complication post procedure with SculpSure.

Both treatments are considered to be viable options for non-invasive fat reduction, offering good, long-term effects. It is always recommended for you to do your homework in order to choose which procedure is right for you.
