  • OUR CHARITYTheRotaryFoundation

  • The MissionThe Mission of the Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian educational and cultural support programmesor

  • TO DO GOOD IN THE WORLD

    It is that SIMPLE

  • The Rotary Foundation -TRFThe Only Charity in the World that -ASKS YOU FOR MONEYINCREASES THAT BY INVESTMENTS THEN ASKS YOU HOW TO SPENDTHE FUNDS

  • The Rotary Foundation(TRF)Is Rotarys only Charity and is funded by donations from clubs, Rotarians and individuals, either during their lifetime or by bequests

  • How does TRF work?Relies on the enthusiastic support of Rotarians voluntarily giving of their time and money

  • Who does TRF belong to?

Every Rotarian whether he or she has madea contribution or not

  • WHO SPENDS IT?You do!Each district currently receives back 50 % of the giving which they made 3 years ago(Called the DDF funds)

  • Why DDF currently 50% ?The other 50% (The World Fund) is to pay for some other district programmes costs such as:- GSE teamThe other half of a Matched Grant & District Simplified grants - etc

  • DDF ?District Designated Fund REMEMBERThere is no WE and there is no THEY

It is US who say WHAT we spend and HOW we spend it

  • So What does DDF DO?It allows us all to undertake bigger and well controlled projects to meet the NEEDS of those we care to SERVE

It has allowed, and continues to allow us to be personally involved in building a Better World working with clubs Internationally

  • The Rotary Foundation You share in the spending decision making:Your contributions are used for programmes THREE years after they were received by the Rotary FoundationThree year cycle allows the Foundation to invest your contribution to pay for all administration, programme operations, and fund development costs Three year cycle gives Districts time for planning and selection for the Districts choice of programme awards

  • Every Rotarian Every Year

  • So for a moment a little run through the stepping stones and years of growthJust a little acorn of 26 US dollarsWhat a tree there is nowLargest Education Scholarship Foundation if we include the jewel of Group Study Exchange -- GSESo many funded projects giving opportunity to Rotarians in the receiving countries a real chance to better serve their communitiesThe stirring words of the Chief Executive Officers of the United Nations and of the World Health Organisation perhaps sum up our efforts:-Could not have been attempted without the efforts of Rotary and the one I particularly likeRotary has been the conscience of the worldThe funds of the Foundation should come not only from our own sensible donations but from :-The Government by paying by Gift Aid.Even better if we enjoy the fun of running events to draw contributions from our own communities. For those involved with Rotary for many years will remember how successful we were in our Polio Plus projectsIt is the in thing now to try and say in as few words as possible what we are trying to achieve. To give every one who needs to know whether inside or outside the organisation a clear focus on the purpose.Perhaps being of simple minds the next slide says it more clearly.

Now --- for some reasonprobably as an excuse to avoid contributing there are those who suggest the Rotary Foundation is complicated.

I hope after this presentation you will see this is not soThe keys areVoluntarily - but some would say it should be mandatory

    Giving

Time & Money = not just our own but encouraging others outside Rotary to contribute through real fund raising. We showed how it really could be done for PolioPlus. One of the few countries in the world where normal contributions did not drop during that campaign. Mind you we are nearly bottom of the annual contribution league tableHowever through our Governments support though we were a very large contributor to PolioPlus campaignSome would say not fair perhaps but there are really so few who fail to see the benefit of the Rotary Foundation leverage that it seems better to follow

The 4 Way TestThe emotive issue - why not put to immediate use?Why only 50% --- well lets look at the next two slides and hopefully we shall see good reason. As an interesting point remember to look at unspent DDF before making noises about spending NOW. Most Districts have unspent money..Each District is currently entitled to a GSE every year. The matching grant other half will match cash in full and half the District DDF amount. This leverage means that clubs can receive far more than they have contributed

If every Rotarian could be made to understand that!!!I have nothing to add to thatThe power of Rotary is very much through the work of the Rotary FoundationSo many Rotarians involved in implementing funded projects adding significantly to the funded value

It really does give the opportunity to serve and in nearly every underdeveloped country the money donated goes so very much further. And yet we are the greatest beneficiaries in Matching grants and Scholarship fees paid to UK Universities ANDDraw down a big proportion of Matching Grant fundsThe Permanent Fund stood at US$157.8 million at the end of 2005

So many easy ways to improve our contribution levels

It does not hurt you at all if you commit to a donation as part of your estateand it is tax exemptEach of these pictures represents just one of the thousands of completed projects using Foundation funds. Each of these projects giving clubs an opportunity to do a bigger job as a resultEach of these pictures represents just one of the thousands of completed projects using Foundation funds. Each of these projects giving clubs an opportunity to do a bigger job as a resultSo in the years ahead lets make a New Resolution.Be a Benefactor ~ that is a painless way of letting the really needy inherit from your estate

Pay by Gift Aid and let the Government increase your donation by the basic tax rate. Why turn down a free gift??

Pay at the average level for the world and even run a fundraiser to make that even more.

US$100 per Rotarian is about the cost of your Sunday paper!!!!!
