events spring/summer summary

Dear friends,Spring is in the air at the Dance Palace,

and the flowers are exploding with color! Now is the time to sign up for Dance

Palace Summer Camp. In its 37th year, camp is a Dance Palace tradition—a caring place where children ages 6 to 12 can be themselves while participating in good, old-fashioned summer camp activities. In addition, teens ages 13 to 15 learn job and leadership skills in our Counselor-in-Training Program and serve as role models for the younger campers.

Also, join us for “A Broadway Nostalgia Celebration.” San Francisco’s 42nd Moon Theater performs the best of the classics on Saturday, July 16. It will be an intimate evening hosted by the Dance Palace and

West Marin Players with some very talented professional singers.

You’ll be better able to stay abreast of what’s happening here each week with our new marquee which replaces the 25-year-old sign near the street. It’s taking shape with the generous help of the West Marin Fund. Thanks to them and to the many volunteers and supporters who help the Dance Palace Community and Cultural Center thrive. We couldn’t do it without you! With warm regards, Alison Marks, Executive Director

DANCE PALACE CAMP is a place where children can be themselves while participating in traditional, good old-fashioned summer camp activities in a community of caring people. Kids 6–12 explore the West Marin environment, and foster their creativity and imagination with fun, hands-on, activities that build friendships, kindness, cooperation, and encourage respect for our planet. Campers are clustered by age into 3 groups of 10 to 15 children and take part in a wide variety of activities daily. With our low camper-to-staff ratio (7:1), we provide high quality, personal attention to all campers and their families.

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM Young people, ages 13–15, learn leadership skills, team building, and problem solving, while taking part in a variety of supervised recreational activities including kayaking on Tomales Bay. CITs develop the job skills necessary to be a good worker, counselor and babysitter. They serve as great role models for the younger campers, lead and manage activities including the creation of the Camp T-shirt, publish the Camp newspaper, and are trained in First Aid and CPR. Twelve year olds can choose to move up and become Tweeners. They will be included in most of the activities of the CIT’s and become a part of this group.
