What is Social Inclusion Week? Social Inclusion Week is about encouraging communities to reconnect and be inclusive of all cultures, age groups and nationalities. Social Inclusion Week aims to help Australians feel valued and to give people the opportunity to participate fully in society. It’s about connecting with local communities, work mates, family and friends to build relationships and networks to address isolation and exclusion. Conceptualised by Dr Jonathon Welch AM, Social Inclusion Week was launched in 2009 as a way for communities to share knowledge and experience to educate and raise awareness. It is an annual initiative that takes place the last week in November. The inaugural Sunshine Coast Social Week Event 2012 will take place on Thursday, 29 November 2012. For this event Felicity Park, Omrah Street, Caloundra will be turned into a showground pavilion with market stalls, workshops, activities as well as providing the opportunity and space for people to connect with each other. All the expo stalls will be hosted by local organisations, groups, clubs and businesses. Come and see what's on offer from over 60 local community groups/organisations/clubs who will be promoting the services they offer and the resources they have available to the Sunshine Coast community. Get involved and help the Sunshine Coast Collaborate, Connect and Celebrate Social Inclusion Week 2012.
