PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Welcome to the 29th Annual Ontario Camaro Nationals!
I can’t believe another year has passed & we are kicking off another summer with the Ontario Camaro Nationals.
Once again we have opted to host our show at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Oakville due to their great show site and
facilities, and of course their exceptional hospitality.
I want to thank the entire executive for once again outdoing themselves to put together another great show for you
this year. We truly hope everyone has an excellent time.
We have lots of great prizes and awards to be given out again this year. This would not be possible without the very
generous support of our sponsors, many of which are in attendance this weekend. A sincere thank you to all of
them! Please support our sponsors every chance you get. Without them there would be no Nationals.
This year’s Nationals is a special one as the Camaro has reached a milestone. 2017 marks the 50th anniversary for the
Camaro. Back on June 28, 1966 General Motors held a live press conference in Detroit’s Statler-Hilton Hotel,
announcing a new direct competitor to Ford's Mustang in the pony car market. Chevrolet General Manager Pete
Estes announced the new car line saying it "suggests the comradeship of good friends as a personal car should be to
its owner…." Looking back now, I can’t think of a better way to describe this great car or the people that own and
drive them. I have been fortunate to meet many people I now call friends because of the Camaro and for that I will
always be grateful.
Life is short. Live it to the fullest, and enjoy every minute. I hope you have a great weekend. Visit with old friends
and make new ones. Let’s celebrate this 50th anniversary in true “Camaro” style.
Jason
Dear Camaro Club Friends,
Thank you for your support of Diabetes Canada’s camping program for kids with type 1 diabetes. Your support helps
these kids learn about their disease and become responsible for their own diabetes management. This is a life-saving strategy that will help them to avoid the serious complications associated with diabetes, such as heart disease,
blindness, kidney disease, and limb amputations. Our camping program also lets these kids feel like they belong, because at camp everyone has diabetes. They learn about their disease and have a lot of fun as well.
Last year I shared a letter from Adriana, a 12 year-old girl who attended Camp Huronda. This year, I have a letter from her younger brother Joey, who also has type 1 diabetes. I hope this gives you some idea of how important your
support of our camping program is. Here is Joey’s letter:
Hi, my name is Joey, I’m Adriana’s younger brother and I have type 1
diabetes too. I was diagnosed when I was 8 years old. She taught me a lot about how to
check my blood sugar and how I can still do things other kids are doing. She also told me
about Camp Huronda!
I went the next summer for two weeks and shared a room with boys who had diabetes like
me! It was also the first time I was not scared to inject my own insulin and I even won an
award!
Some of my favorite things at camp are archery, beach volleyball and the ropes course. My
sister told me your group helps send kids like me and my sister to camp and also helps build
things and send things like life jackets and fishing poles.
Thank you very much and I hope you can help other kids like me and my sister go to camp
this year! From all of us at Diabetes Canada, and on behalf of the hundreds of children attending camp, thank you for giving
them the chance to be kids going to camp, just like everyone else.
