Between August 3 and 7, 2015, Covenant University organized an empowering Executive Advance for its Faculty and Senior Non-Teaching Staff with the aim of building the capacity of the workforce for the task ahead in the new academic session. The theme of the weeklong intensive programme was “Innovation, Product Development and Nation Building: Impetus for the Attainment of Vision 10:2022.” It attracted 20 high quality presentations by proven innovative Leaders, Technocrats and Scholars drawn from within and outside the University.

The programme was declared opened by the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyededpo who made the first presentation titled, “Understanding the Vision, Mission, Philosophy and Core Values of Covenant University.” The Chancellor stated that the University is committed to recover the originality of the Blackman and urged the participants to think outside the box in order to create solutions. The second presentation was given by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo, who made a scholarly appraisal of Vision10:2022, its achievements and challenges.

The presentation was discussed by a panel of discussants coordinated by Professor Charles Ogbulogo. The panel members include Professors Shalom Chinedu, Nicholas Omoregbe, Samuel John and Francis Iyoha.

In the third presentation, Professor Gbolahan Oni elucidated on the topic: “The Strategic Role of Covenant University in Nation Building: Prospects and Imperatives.”

How to promote and generate revenue from sustainable innovative product development efforts of the University was the focus of the fourth presentation by Professor Samuel Wara, Director Covenant University Centre for Research, Innovation and Development (CUCRID), who spoke on the topic: “Promoting the Culture of Innovation, Product Development for IGR in Covenant University”.

His presentation was further enriched by contributions from a panel of discussants coordinated by Professor Christian Bolu. Members of the panel include Professor C.O.A Awosope, Professor Louis Egwari, Dr. Omotayo Adewuyi and Dr. Uloma Uwuigbe.

The former Registrar, Dr Olumuyiwa Oludayo, gave the fifth presentation titled, “Presenting Covenant University Work Ethics, Governance Structure and Administrative Process.”

The second day of the Executive Advance was kicked off with a thought provoking presentation by the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo, titled, “Spirituality: The Catalyst For Innovation And Product Development.”

This was followed by another stimulating presentation from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Abioye, titled, “Developing an Internationalization Agenda for Covenant University”. Informed contributions were made by a panel of discussants anchored by Professor Charles Ogbulogo with Dr. Angela Eni, Dr. Omotayo Osibanjo and Dr. Francis Idachaba as members.

An international consultant and CEO, Academy for Excellence in Education, Dr. Elewechi Okike, during the presentations eight and nine did a review of Problem-Based Learning in Covenant University. She critically assessed the introduction, progress and challenges associated with PBL. Her presentations were further x-rayed by a panel of discussants coordinated by Professor Isaiah Olurinola with Professor Cleopas Loto, Dr. Oluseyi Ajayi and Dr. Zacchaeus Omogbadegun as members.Presentation 10 featured “An Empowering the Teachers Mini-Workshop” with the theme: “Tips on Teaching Effectiveness.” The tips highlighted include: Conducting Effective Tutorials, Making Better Power Point Presentations,

thThe 11 presentation was given by the

Director, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. Olawande Daramola, on the topic: “Special

Presentation on Covenant University Strategic Plan”. The various aspect of the presentation

was discussed by panelists, comprising of Professor Christian Bolu, Professor Francis Iyoha, Dr.

Henry Okodua and Dr. Conrad Omonhinmi.

This was followed by a special presentation on Covenant University Information Technology Policy by Professor Samuel

John, Dean of College of Engineering with contribution from the Director Centre for Systems and Information Service, Engr. Yinka

Adeboye.

Presentation 13 titled, “Towards a Disciplined Pursuit of the Covenant University Vision” was made by Pastor Yemi Nathaniel, Mandate Secretary,

Living Faith Church Worldwide on the third day of the Executive Advance.

Mr. Tolu Okuboyejo of WDL Technologies, Lagos gave the 14 presentation titled, “Electronic Document Management System.”

In the 15 presentation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles K. Ayo, unveiled the University's plans for endowed professorial chairs in an exposition titled, “Towards the Establishment of Endowed Chairs and Research Professorships in Covenant University.”

On the fourth day of the programme, Pastor (Mrs.) Faith Oyedepo, Vice-President Education, Living Faith Church Worldwide, gave an empowering presentation on the topic: “Running Well And Finishing Strong: Healthy Family Tips For Academics.” It

thThe Resident Pastor, Faith Tabernacle, Pastor Ubong Ntia, gave the 17 presentation on the topic: “The Place of Integrity for Attaining Academic and Professional Excellence.”

thThe 18 presentation was an illumination on the art of leadership by the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo, on the topic: “The Acts of Leadership: Providing a Template for Personal and Corporate Excellence towards Nation Building.”

There were specialized group activities such as Special Orientation for all new Faculty and Staff, Academic Advisers Forum, Capacity Building Seminar for Senior Non-Teaching Staff, Hands-On Training on E-Learning/Moodle Platform, Smart Board and other Teaching Facilities, and Library Orientation/ Hands-On Training Session for Faculty and Staff.

On the last day of the Executive Advance, an Alumnus of the University and CEO of Softcom Limited, Mr. Yomi Adedeji, who was represented by Dr.

thOlumuyiwa Oludayo, gave the 19 presentation titled, “Improving Mobile Learning Adoption In Covenant University: A Tutorial for Teachers.”

This was followed by a presentation by the Director Financial Services, Pastor Bayo Oladeinbo, on the topic: “Harnessing Institutional Potentials and Resources for Sustainable Development.” His presentation was further discussed by a panel of discussants coordinated by Professor Jonathan Adeyeye and had Professors Francis Iyoha and Albert Adeboye as members.

The Vice-Chancellor facilitated orientation for Academic Leaders in the University, including Deans, Directors, Professors, Deputy Deans, HODs and Programme Coordinators on the expectations for the new academic year.

The 2015 Executive Advance came to a glorious conclusion with an empowering impartation for excellence and closing charge by the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo.
