- Play two contrasting movements on allmulti-movement selections unless otherinstructions are specified.

- Students may enter the same Regular orSpecial Ensemble event more than once aslong as the selection and ensemblemembers differ for each entry. V.C.2

- If the length of a selection exceeds 3/4 ofthe allotted time, the music may be cut tostay within the time limit.

- The soloist/a member of the ensemble isexpected to introduce the performance atWSMA District and State Festivals, includingperformer and accompanist names, name ofschool, title and composer of piece (and ifappropriate, movements being performed),and briefly describe a significant aspect ofstyle, form, technique, harmony, rhythm, ormelody in the piece.

It is not necessary to send the selected number to WSMA forpermission. Helpful Hint: When choosing a selected number to complete your program, take into consideration thecomplexity of the chord progression/”changes” for the appropriate class.

c. One of the numbers performed must be a swing tune; the other number must complete the contrasting stye

or tempo requirement.

5. Both selections are required to have improvised solos.a. Improvised Solo Expectations:

i. Class C – At least one soloist must perform a minimum of 12 measures per selection.ii. Class B – At least two soloists must improvise for a minimum of 24 measures per selection.iii. Class A - At least three soloists must improvise for a minimum of 24 measures per selection.

6. A MIDI wind controller may be used as a solo instrument, but not as a substitute for an instrument that has a written part.7. The use of an iPad as a performance instrument is not allowed.
