Task 3:- What kind of media institution

might distribute your media product

and why?

Page 2: Evaluation Task 3

My Production NameI chose my production company name to be called “Shattered Dreams Productions”.

I felt that this suggested the genre of horror seeing as a dream being shattered sounds very scary and troubling.

I went for a smashed background effect to add to this shattered feeling. It gives a sense of something not being perfect, bringing in the horror genre.

The light blue highlights this icy cold feel, having connotations of being scary and unfriendly.

The font I used, ‘Horse Puke’, makes the smash blend in with the name and adds again to this shattered effect.

What Production Companies Do

They will create different conventions of media, for example films and TV.

The production company is usually in charge of all the basic elements to creating a film.

This includes key essentials like finding the director, casting, budgeting, scripting, etc.

They are continuously responsible for all these different attributes, and for anything going wrong like damage to the film, equipment, or even cast and crew involved.

Distributor- who and why

The distributor of a film decides how the product reaches the audience, and in what way.

They also decide how the film should be released, both when and where.

For my movie I decided to choose Lionsgate as my main distributor, seeing as it is a well-known company for producing consistently engaging horror movies and drawing in audience

I would receive funding from loans and synergy with other companies

like Lionsgate. I would distribute it through entering

it into film festivals, including Film 4’s Fright Fest, where lots of different

horror movies are entered and compete against each other.

DistributionIf successful, I would go on to a cinema release, before then having screenings on the television, Film4, along with DVD and Blu-Ray release.

Other films that did similar to this were like The Woman in Black, released on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc on18th June 2012 in the UK.Also films like Boyhood, which premiered in the Sundance film festival of 2014, which later had a theatrical release.

Job Titles

I made some relevant to the action taking place, for example the lighting designer I displayed in the scene with the street lamp. Also the ‘Directed by Katie Webster’ was the last to be seen in the sequence right before the death, seeing as I did everything for the film and composed it all together and this appearing just before the death wraps up the opening before the film finally begins.

Within the opening sequence, the job titles appear as to the main areas of specific jobs needed for a film. This is like the writer, director, lighting designer, editor, etc.I made them appear in sections throughout the opening, but mostly appearing from when the girl walks from the restaurant to her house.
