Evaluation question seven

Looking back at the preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in

the progression from it to a full product

Photoshop

Before I began this task I was almost entirely unaware of what this programme could do. Excluding the fact that I had heard about models in magazines being airbrushed, I was mostly entirely unaware as to the uses or purposes for this programme. For this reason my preliminary task is extremely basic as I was unaware as to many of the great things that this programme enabled me to do.

When I first begin my preliminary task I could never have imagined all of the great features of this programme that I would not only learn about, but be able to use myself.

I was also able to use many more tools and add many more effects in my main task than I was my preliminary. For this reason I feel as though my main task pages look much more professional and as though they look like they have been created to a much higher standard.

Production schedule

When doing the preliminary task I did not have a production schedule. This left me quite un-organised as I was unsure what it was that I needed to get done by each particular stage. Whilst creating my main task however I did have a production schedule and it made sure I completed certain tasks by a specific time. This kept me much more organised and able to keep on top of all the work that I had to do.

conventions

Prior to taking this subject I was unaware as to what conventions of magazines were. Other than noticing similar layouts I wasn't really sure on any particular ones. I used websites and online analysis’ to inform me of magazine conventions of both usual magazines and to be more precise, conventions of music magazines from my particular genre.

It is evident when comparing my preliminary task to my current main task that I have learnt much about conventions of magazines and have put them into accurate use.

Human resources

Prior to taking images for my preliminary task I had made no shot plans which meant I hadn't planned what my images were going to be of, or how I wanted them to look. I was in a rush and wasted time going round trying to find people to model for my images. For this reason I feel as though some of the images may look rushed and basic.

In my main task however since I did shot plans, I knew the images that I wanted to take a who I was going to take them of. This meant I was able to spend more time making sure the quality of the images were how I wanted them to be. We too had a white back drop set up for, this made taking our images look professional and too made it easier to crop the image of our chosen artist and position them on another background, using a programme called photoshop.

Overall

I believe that I did a much better job in my main task. I was much more organised and had much more time to focus on the exact detail of my pages. I had much more experience using the programmes that I did, and was also more experienced with using online programmes for presentation purposes. The planning that I did really helped me to keep in time and keep focused and on top of all that I needed to do.

I have learnt that planning is key to success, and that it is best to be patient with things and take your time to fully understand how to use thing such as programmes, rather than rush through and using the programmes to the bare minimum of their offered ability.
