PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE

FULL PRODUCT?

Evaluation Question Seven

Looking back to my preliminary task I feel that I have learnt an enormous

amount on a variety of different aspects to making the opening sequence of a

film. Filming my preliminary task really helped me to learn how to use the

cameras correctly since I had no previous experience in using this particular

type of camera, also I found out the best way in which we could film certain

angles, how to edit the clips together and rules that make every shot effective.

Without this my final product would not have flowed and it would have taken

me longer to produce the final product.

Another thing that I think assisted me in the making of my opening was

creating a script and storyboard for both the preliminary task and ‘open

window’, it helped me because when it came to writing the script and

storyboard for my own film I had the previous experience of doing it before

so therefore I did not have the mistakes that I had previously in my script and

storyboard.

Furthermore, I think that spending a lot of time doing research on the thriller

genre really helped me gain a deeper understanding and insight into what are

the conventions of a thriller and how I could either use them or break them

when I created and filmed my own film. I researched a range of different

thriller movies including ‘Seven’, ‘Children of Men’, ‘Panic Room’, ‘Flightplan’

and ‘Jaws’, which all in some way helped me to create my final product for

example I took inspiration from ‘Children of Men’ when deciding on my

credits since they do not feature the name of the actors and actresses featured

in the film I felt that this would work in my film opening.

Lastly, I completed many drafts and practice openings which I showed to

various different people each time in person, on Facebook and YouTube

receiving feedback learning how I could improve.
