Evaluation question 4:How did you use new media technologies in the

construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

• The use of media technologies during the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages has been vital to the success of my products. Allowing to construct a present my work in a number of different ways. Throughout my advanced portfolio construction I have learnt how to use a number of new techniques with media technologies as well as getting to grips with new technologies which I have not previously used.

Photoshop

• Photoshop was one of the most vital tools in the construction stages of my products. Photoshop was the primary software used in the creation of my magazine cover and film poster. Within Photoshop a number of professional features allowed me to greatly improve the appearance of my work such as blending options, colour picker , filters and the lasso tool. Photoshop allowed me to not only create my product layout but also edit my images and create inter titles for my trailer

Final cut

• The use of final cut in creating my trailer was crucial. Providing me with the tools required to edit my trailer to a professional standard using methods such as filters, animations and transitions. At the start of my production I had very little experience using final cut however through regular use I have developed my skills enough to edit my trailer to a standard which I am satisfied with

GarageBand

• Garage band was used the create a custom soundtrack for the trailer, after downloading samples from YouTube and freefx.com etc, I layered these together for dramatic effect such as the continuous heavy breathing behind the sound of a knife blade sharpening along with other effects such as a door slamming which helps the viewer to understand the plot. Further customizations could be made through volume control and mixing which I used to heighten tension in places through volume changes. My favorite use of this piece of software was the inclusion of a ‘boom’ noise at the end of the trailer as I felt this closed the trailer nicely and mirrored that of professional examples.

After effects

• After the completion of the original trailer feedback suggested that animated effects should be used at the start of the trailer. In order to create this is I used Adobe After Effects to import the ‘Barnard Pictures’ and ‘217 Films’ logos then added effects and animations into the logos such as rippling. These were then imported into final cut and added to the final version of the trailer, creating a more professional appeal from the start.
