How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

iPhone useresearch, email, Facebook I used an iPhone for research on the go where I didn’t have access to a computer. I also used it to keep in contact with Peter Barker, the press officer for the RNLI. I used email to discuss the details with him and arrange shooting.

Blog

• Blogger was a key media technology I used in this project. I uploaded posts for research, all the way through to the evaluation. This enabled me to see a progression through my work and was helpful for me to keep track of my work. Furthermore, as it is a website which allows an individual to upload everything from images, to voice notes to videos, it means that I could keep all of my research in one place.

Canon 600d

• I was lucky enough to have used a 600d for my coursework last year, so could use it sufficiently. I used the 600d to capture my video alongside my stills.

• Rode Go Mic- • I hadn’t used an external microphone before

and so setting input levels for different environments was something I had to learn.

Prezi & Slideshare• In the research stages I made slideshares and prezis for my blog on different codes

and conventions. I think that it it was very useful as it presented my research in ways that was not too text heavy, making it easier to read and understand. They were also uploaded to the blog which was useful as I could go back to them whenever I needed.

• I am currently using slideshare to present my evaluation, too. I needed to evaluate the entirety of my project, but didn’t want loads of text, and wanted to use multimedia.

Final Cut Pro• I chose to use Final Cut Pro to edit my film. Luckily I

already had experience with final cut making the editing process relatively quick for me. It has a wide range of features such as cropping video which helped me frame my interviews better. It really helped me develop my raw footage into a video I was pleased with.

Photoshop

• I used Adobe Photoshop to edit my stills for both my ancillaries.

Microsoft Office

• I have used Microsoft office extensively throughout all stages of my coursework. Microsoft word has been used for shotlists and PowerPoint used to create slideshares such as this one.

YouTube& Vimeo

• I used YouTube along with Vimeo to search for tutorials for everything from specific actions on Photoshop to how best to use certain lens’.

• I also used both platforms to research and view other texts in the documentary genre

• I chose YouTube to exhibit my final production as it was the best platform. YouTube make it easy to share my production and made it easily accessible.
