Evaluation Question 4 How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages

This process could not have been completed without the use technology. Pretty much all that I did for this work was down to

the aid of technology and it would have been near enough impossible for me to do what I have done if it was unavailable.

Technology has changed dramatically and was critical during the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages. The

amount of things technology allowed me to do was phenomenal, from the littlest detail in something to another thing which had a

major part to play in this video. The use of technology made doing this process so much easier as most of the time I had

access to these different types of technologies so I was able to use them when I thought was appropriate. I am currently using

technology in order for me to produce the answer to this evaluation question so you can read it. After this slide is a list of different types of technology I used during the construction of

my work and what area it helped me in.

Panasonic LUMIX DMCZS7

Although this looks like a normal camera that only takes photos, I especially borrowed it of a family member as I knew it would be great with making videos also as it has HD features with a 12x zoom features which gives you great quality as well as it being HD.

This was used for construction purposes, I used it to film the whole music video and it was simple and easy to use. We had a few problems to do with the camera as it formatted one of the SD cards incorrectly and deleted a whole lot of footage which took us a long time to re-film as we had no other way of restoring that data. After talking through with IT specialists they insisted we must re-film. It was a good piece of kit to work with and I’m happy to have used it but I reckon there must have been a better video camera that may have produced more quality but I was satisfied with the use of it.

Apple Mac Computer.One of the most inspirational pieces of technology created this year, as it should be with the staggering amount of money you have to pay that comes with this great piece of kit. It is famous around the world and the brand Apple is doing amazing at this moment in time. We were lucky enough that they were available

for us to use to do our editing on and it was so smooth to use but quite complex for first timers, like myself. These computers have a lot of software available for us to use and when they run they are fast. With this come a few problems and one was that the Mac you would use to do your editing on was the only one you could use. Now there were 5 macs and more than double the amount of people wanting to use them so there was a lot of competition for them as it was simply first come first served.

SD CARD and SD CARD READER.

These 2 pieces of technology were vital when constructing the footage in order to put it onto the computer so we could put it all together and make a video. The first time we filmed our footage, we used at 32gb card as we wanted to make sure we could film all that we wanted and not have to worry about space to put it all. As I talked about earlier with the camera having its formatting problems and this happened on that 32gb card as half of our filming got deleted. We then resulted to a 4gb card to film the clips that were deleted. This SD card goes into the camera and all that you record is put on there

The SD card reader allowed us to insert the SD card into the reader then plug it into the Mac’s so all our footage could be watched and downloaded on to the computer. When it was downloaded, we used a software called Final Cut Pro which we put all the footage on and then started the editing.

Internet. The internet was used for nearly every step of the video making process. It helped me in the research and planning as I used it to do secondary research and see what type of existing texts there already as this will allow me to get a good idea of what I wanted to do. It also helped me when doing my research and planning for my ancillary texts as I needed inspiration for them and get ideas using the internet.

When constructing the video, at times we were unsure about some way to do things on Final Cut Pro so we would use the internet and watch videos people have put up to show us what we would need to do in order to do a process. Finally, some software’s I would like to use to do my evaluation are on the internet and all I would have to do is search the software I’m looking for and use it to do my evaluations.

Adobe Photoshop.

Adobe Photoshop is the best software for editing pictures or text that you may want to use. It is a very complex software for a first time user and it did take me a long while to get used to it and once I did it is such a useful programme, it allows you to look at every single detail and correct them. It is great for making things perfect and correcting all the detail. This was mainly used for constructing the ancillary texts when editing pictures and fonts.

Microsoft office 2010For my evaluations, I used Office as it has many programmes in it which allow you to transfer text and pictures (something that I am doing right now) I can write thousands of words and get all I need to say across to the audience. It is a great software used all around the world and very popular. I was able to also use it to do my research by having a blank page open and getting important information for the internet on to this software. It also has a programme called Microsoft Publisher which I did use for some editing of my ancillary texts as it is easier to use than Photoshop although it does not go into much detail and there aren’t as many tools provided like Photoshop.

Twitter.

We used twitter for advertising our band to people and making it seem professional. People could follow our band, like you see with real artists or bands. It is part of the internet which I spoke about earlier so have to give praise to the internet. You could say this was used for constructing as it was the start of our band. It is a great way for the target audience to find you and see what you have been going through and follow their day to day activities; this way the fans can be more interactive with the band due to Twitter being a social networking site.

Scribd.

Scribd is a software which allows you to take Microsoft office and share it with people. I will use it mainly for my evaluation and I can use this to stick it straight on to my blog. I can then share this with people, as it has all my information I need to tell people on it. The internet again gets full praise for giving us this programme as it can not be accessed anyhow else.

Animoto.

Animoto is another software on the internet which allows me to share pictures and texts and use music to engage the audience. I used this for construction when I did my research and planning for my idea. It is such an easy programme to use and there is a lot you can do on it. I like this programme and am thinking to use it for my evaluation also so it is good use for most things.

Blogger.

Blogger is the most important programme on the internet for me to use. Every single piece of work I do must be put on this website so the examiner and my teachers are able to view what I have done. I would say I used it mostly for construction as I put everything on there. It allows me to have a website address and people can type this so they can search my blog and see what I have done. Again full praise to the greatest technology invented which is the internet. This was an all rounder in the areas for this question as I used it for construction when getting feedback from people on my ideas or what something I had done looked like and using this to make it better. In addition, this was used for the research and planning part of the task for pretty much the same reason as the construction part due to me posting ideas from what I have found onto my blog so I could look back at what I’ve found and add it to my final pieces of work. All my evaluation questions are put on my blog for people to see and for the examiners.
