Question 4How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning

and evaluation stages?

NikonWe used Nikon cameras when filming the different shots and elements of the music video we produced. By doing so we developed our creative control and ensured we had good quality footage. We were slightly used to using these cameras from our AS project last year, so we were able to get interesting shot types which would look good and professional in our music video. We additionally used a tripod to hold the camera and ensure we filmed decent footage which seemed professional.

Adobe PhotoshopI used this programme for both of my ancillary projects for my Advanced Portfolio, when creating the various pages of the CD digipack, and also an advertisement poster. As I used this programme last year when designing the various pages for my AS coursework, I was able to develop my skills and effectively edit images to make them appear professional, as well as using various elements of different fonts and texts and positioning them in a way which would make both of the designs match the themes of the music video we had created.

Adobe PremiereWe edited the footage we collected on this program, and it provided us with a variety of options which helped us create a professional looking, high quality video. The program allowed us to import the footage we had filmed and edit it to correspond with the narrative we had produced in our storyboard. Through the program, we were able to edit certain aspects of lighting, for certain shots that were sometimes too light or too dark, or possibly if they didn’t match the cooler colour scheme which we were going for visually in the music video.

YouTubeDuring the research process at the planning stages of our music video, we used the website YouTube to analyse and research music videos of the indie rock/alternative genre of music, to see if there were any generic conventions within these videos that we could potentially include in the music video we were producing. Additionally, after we had finished producing our edit of the music video, YouTube was a suitable platform for us to post it, and share it with the audience.

Google/The InternetBy using many different search websites on the internet during the research process when we were planning ideas for our music video, we were able to discover various information regarding style and the look of typical music videos, which had narrative elements within them. Also, after we had produced our music video the use of these websites allowed us to obtain feedback from the audience, giving use a sense of which elements we should adjust or improve.

Mind Genius

During the planning stages of our music video we used this programme, as it allowed us to write down all of our ideas as a group, and then see which we could use and which we should get rid of and keep, whilst also thinking about which ideas fit in with the generic conventions of an indie rock music video.

Facebook

We used Facebook to create a focus group to help us with our finial music video which we had produced. This helped us gather ideas of how to improve the edit which we had, and also gave an insight into what our audience liked the most when it comes to music videos.

Survey Monkey

When I was collecting information for my market research I used this website to gather a range of views and interests from a wide audience, in relation to the things they look for in a music video and the things which they find entertaining in one.

BloggerThroughout my AS and A2 coursework I have used blogger to show various pieces of my coursework, and been able to show how it has progressed from the product and market research at the start, to the evaluations of the final products produced. To be able to present certain documents on Blogger in the right format, I had to use Slideshare which converted Microsoft Word documents allowing them to be placed onto my blog, and showing the process of my work. Additionally, I have used the online program Prezi which provided a creative way in which I could present the work on my blog.

Technological ConvergenceThrough the use of technological convergence we were able to research ideas for our music magazine, through the pieces of product research analysed such as the music videos of popular indie music artists and how these videos reach out and engage their audiences, as well as uploading our recorded footage, downloading our chosen song, and editing the two together all on the same Windows computer. From this computer also we were able to distribute and present the music video we had created to our audience, as well as receive feedback upon it.
