Evaluation – Question 3What kind of media institution might distribute your

media product and why?

Page 2: Evaluation – question 3 finished

Do you see your film as a big or small budget and why?

I see my film as being a small budget film because its not something that is going to cost a lot to produce and make. All the props, costumes and actors don’t cost a lot to hire so over all it would be a small budget film.

What film distributor would you need and why?

Some small budget films that have become successes are:

• The Blair witch project• Paranormal activity• Once • Rocky

Which real life distributor would you use if you had the

chance?A film distributor is a company or a person that is responsible for releasing films to the public either in the cinemas or for home viewing(DVD). A distributor may do this directly if they own the cinema or film distribution network if not through theatrical exhibitors and other sub-distributors•Warner bros pictures•The Walt Disney company ltd •Paramount pictures UK•20th century fox •Sony pictures internationalWe would use one of these if we had the chance because they all have a good reputation with the films that they have released especially in the romance genre.A good example of independent distributors is Warp and these would be better for our film to be distributed by as they are smaller and more independent so it wouldn’t cost as much to get it out to the cinemas.

Where would you expect your film to go?

The audience that we were targeting is the female population all aged under 35 but mainly teenage girls, as they were the age group that would be more likely to watch our genre of film. Also people that like romance films would be aimed at as well.

Teenagers are more likely to look at commercial marketing so we would need to market our film in a mainstream audience.

We would expect our film to go to a multiplex as it would be more appropriate for our target audience

Also we could release it online as most of our target audience spend their free time on the internet so it would be an appropriate place.

Where would it be marketed?I think that the best place to market our film would be on TV in

the adverts after 8 o clock because that is when most people in our target audience watches TV, but it wouldn’t really matter what programme it was shown in the breaks of as long as it is on a channel that teenagers watch. Also on the internet because a large population of our target audience uses the internet for social networking sites like Twitter, Bebo and Facebook. Another good place to market our film would be in teenage magazines for example 'ok' and 'shout‘, so then we are not aiming it at unnecessary people.
