  1. 1. Evaluation of School magazine
  2. 2. How my magazine attempts to Target its audience My school magazine has been aimed to target the years 7,8&9, this was an easy choice, made to me by my school research questionnaire. By including the Mast head skools r 4 fools I decided not to include a colour cohesion as my targeted audience suggested that it can represent the school to be set in their ways. I decided to include a sixth form student as the foreground image as this gives them an iconography of someone they can look up to on the front of the magazine.
  3. 3. Foreground image I Chose to use a mid close up of Olivia, as she is a sixth form student who is working a lot alongside the year 7, giving them a familiar face. I decided to not edit out the location of the foreground image of the background being in a class room, as this can show my target audience that its most important to work hard in school in order to get to sixthform. The fact that she is wearing her home clothes, contrast to the targeted audiences school uniform, symbolising having more freedom in clothing is one of the rewards you get in return for hard work. I used the rule of thirds and had the subject off centre, this I found that this showed to the viewers that not everything has to be perfect. I decided not to include any props in the foreground image as then it would detract the viewer from the subject image.
  4. 4. Mast HeadMy title for my school magazine was Skools R 4 fools I chose this title, as when evaluating my questionnaire I found that this was the most popular choice therefore, would draw in my readers attention, due to it being different to regular names, linking in to a gratification theory. I used quite a messy font with a bold black out line to make it stand out, the use of bubble writing helps target the younger audience as they spend most of there time, making posters and doing DT work and using bubble writing is the funniest part. I think that the black and white shows the reader that the magazine is basic and gets to the point. Influencing them to read the magazine.
  5. 5. Puffs, Buzz words and Call outs. I decided to include a puff stating that there is a competition to win 30 on their squid cards, I decided to include this puff as when reviewing my questionnaire I found that this would be what my targeted audience would be most interested in meaning they are more likely to read the magazine. I feel this targets the younger audience as the year 7, 8s and 9s are the most common years to use their squids. I used and EXCLUSIVE callout, with the font being yellow with lights, as this was very bold which would immediately draw in the readers attention to the rest of the article which, when asking my targeted audience they were most interested in having a article exclusive on miss Dowdle.
  6. 6. Contents Page It was important that I made my contents page clear and simple, so it was easy to locate the page that the reader was currently looking for. I decided to include a few images to represent the viewer what the magazine has to present them, hopefully encouraging them to read some double page spreads of the magazine. I decided to include Sheldons logo to show how the audience that their school is iconic to a lot of people. The main colour cohesion that I used was black and white, having a white background and a black font as I thought this was quite traditional, representing Sheldon as a traditional school. I used a larger font for my numbers so it was clear to the audience where each article was. If I was to improve my contents page, I would of created a black border to represent the fact that I am framing Sheldon based on my magazine.
  7. 7. Conclusion In my opinion I was not that happy with my final piece for my music magazine. The main reason was that the font was not very visable from a distance, therefore I would of made the font larger and a different colour contrasting with the background. I think that if I was to retake the photograph I would pink a planer back ground which would not still focus from the main subject of image. I also think that I would of taken the photo from a lower angle to reduce the amount of shadow on her face.
