The title of the magazine

• The title of the magazine is Pulse this was used because it is the title that reflects the music style the most with hip hop being used as well as that Pulse is another word for rhythm and fits with the R&B /hip hop theme. the readers will be able to tell this magazine will be hip hop with the name and colour and pictures used on the cover as well as the font used.

• The definition of pulse is a recurrent rhythmic series of beats, waves, vibrations this I felt was very much connected with the hip hop genre as the music which is the beats and rhythm behind the vocals because of this I felt that pulse could be a very good choice of a name.

Mise en scene of images• The images in my products was based on a urban rough look I

choose not to use extensive ‘bling’ due to making the magazine looking to cliché so I tried to be a little different and unique.

• However i did use all of my pictures in run down areas on the street apart from my front cover which was cut out using Photoshop using urban surroundings in my picture gave the image a more urban feel linking to the magazine bringing the audience to be more familiar with what they are seeing as well as keeping my images interesting to look at .

Very cliché with the use of ‘bling’, baseball cap, urban surroundings, tattoos and all with a series face in there picture

Mise en scene of images • I feel this will allow readers of other genres to be a little bit

more associated with my magazine as my artist is not a over the top image of all the clichés of rappers but just the use of simple cloths, urban background and a attitude these are enough to give the magazine away to its original readers of that genre

All different magazines but all have the same pose

Title font and style

• The title of the magazine I feel has been done very will to fit in with the genre of the magazine as the font used was ‘there goes the neighborhood’ which was a font which was very detailed in splashed paint with this font I was able to make the title look a lot like graffiti, with graffiti as a main title this really states the genre of the magazine straight away as they can relate to graffiti with hip hop / urban style of music and genre this is very good in getting the viewer immediately connected with the magazine they would read and make them look more than once rather than a quick glance.

Title font and style• To add to this font I added very bold strong colors being red and

black, having such bold colors will make the magazine stand out as if a magazine is in bland colors and not really noticeable and is in the middle of a magazine rack then you are going to miss what it says just because it doesn't look interesting.

• I found that my graffiti title was not often used within hip hop magazine but I did base my font on how Backspin magazine did their font with the use of graffiti.

Written content

• The connect written in the use of the headlines and double page article I feel that these are very suitable for the reader as they relate to reader with use of technical terms e.g. types of beats of the track. The content of the double page spread is much like a normal magazine with the use of the upcoming story of a new artist and in my article it starts of with a quick background check on my artist and shows how he has gotten on in the industry to get a interview.

• Once this is told I went on to write a interview with a q/a style to it I tried making the article interesting by adding jokes and asking interesting questions rather than boring ones like how was your day.

Written content

• Also in my article I have used a text grab to emphasise the main interesting points said doing the interview as if the text grab is very interesting then it will make the reader look at the whole article and read through to relate to the text grab

• I didn't make the article use to many over technical words and kept my article short and easy allowing the reader to relax while they are reading and not feel its a challenge to understand what is written.

Music genre and how your magazine shows it

• My magazine instantly shows the genre with the title and its font pulse is referred to the beats and sounds of songs and the font used looks a lot like graffiti adding to the hip hop genre. This allows the reader to be recognised with the genre straight away from the title

• Apart from the title the headlines shows some of the biggest artists around as well at the top of the magazine all of the artists used in the magazine are at the top of the magazine showing the reader to be familiar of who they are going to be reading about if they buy the magazine

• The image of the front cover is not really cliché rapper/hip hop however it does have some similarities.

Music genre and how your magazine shows it

• As the artist is posing at the camera in a bad attitude way which is used a lot in hip hop magazines and the pose of looking down on us so the artist is superior this is used in almost every hip hop magazine as seen in the slide about mise en scene.

• The colours of my magazine are sharp and added a black side to make the magazine not seem dull and boring as a hip hop magazine needs to be bright and have a lot going on allowing to make interesting looking magazine

• The contents page of my magazine has used the headlines in a traditional way however I have made the page number and headlines be slanted and making them look distorted.

Music genre and how your magazine shows it

• Which i feel has a rough/urban style look which I've based my magazine look on and to add to this the background is a picture of my artist in a street sat against a wall this also adds to the urban feel giving the whole page a very ‘street’ look which i think will connect with the readers and allow them to relate

Page 12: Evaluation Of Final Product1

layout

• The layout of my 3 pages are used to bring a authentic urban look i try to make the pages look different and interesting as if the pages look interesting and are good to look at then this will make the reader follow on rather then making a glossy page with lots of bright colours i chose to make it look more rough with natural light used within the contents and double page spread i think is would involve the reader more instead of making it like a Hollywood film.

• For my front cover i chose to make the front cover lively and worth looking at so i made sure a lot of empty space was not used for the top and bottom of the magazine i used artists within the magazine at the top and a competition at the bottom.

Page 13: Evaluation Of Final Product1

layout

• For my front cover these 2 pictures influenced how i did my front cover as i used the Source magazine for the way the headlines and the artists headline is placed and tried using this in mine which i did by putting the main headline at the bottom with the artist as well as putting the other headlines at the side of the artist

• The Vibe magazine helped me with the pose of my artist as i used the artists pose as looking down at the camera while crouching down to make them look like they are in control

Page 14: Evaluation Of Final Product1

Layout

• For my contents page i found this piece on the internet and thought that this would suit my genre of music making it look more interesting than a traditional look but for my piece i changed the background to one of my pictures making it look more like a hip hop magazine rather than a pop or rock magazine.

• For my double page spread i used the story on one page and the image of my artist with the use of text grabs to emphasis main points

Page 15: Evaluation Of Final Product1

layout

• This is what i based my double page spread on to help emphasise the main points as well as showing the artist as important by giving him a full page
