Narrative structures
• Open narrative/close narrative• My story is a closed narrative because the
story ends with no other conflicts left and a clear resolution to the story and my characters story arks. Much like Gone in 60 seconds the story ends with the good/bad guys winning and driving off this shows the characters have successfully done what they needed to do to get a outcome to they story ark.
Narrative structures
• Single stand/multi-stand narrative • My story is a single stand story but also gives a
idea that they has be passed events, the story is simply animals have a race every year and the crocodile wants to make sure that the rat doesn't cheat again. A movie like kill bill has single stand story that is simply the main character wants to get revenge.
Narrative structures
• Linear/non-linear narrative• My aim with my story was to have a beginning,
middle and end, I didn’t want to confuse the reader so I kept it to linear narrative, in a straight line to the end. Transformers is an example of a linear story with beginning meeting the main character, middle meeting the robots and the end the big fight.
Narrative structures
• Realist/anti-realist narrative • My story has talking animals and animals who are in
swimming race who should not be able to swim, so yes my story is anti-realist, I did this because this was the only way I could make my story work and to fit my art style. An example of a anti-realist narrative is like any superhero movies/action movies today, in which a hero does the impossible, fights impossible odds and does impossible stunts.
Narrative components
• Opening• My story opens with the reader leaning about how
the animals have a race every year to see who is the quickest out of them, and that this year is a swimming race. It then moves onto finding out about the cheating rat and meeting the crocodile. An example of this is the opening to Raiders of the Lost Ark in which you meet the main character and what he does in the story, also you meet the main villain of the story and sets up the rest story.
Narrative components
• Conflict• The conflict in my story is between the cheating rat
and the crocodile, the conflict is that the crocodile wants to stop the rat from cheating, but the rat wants to win the race by cheating. An example of conflict is the classic story of the the hare and the tortoise who are involved in a race and are both out to win the race the hare hoping to win by speed and the tortoise by his wits and mind.
Narrative components
• Resolution• The ending of the story is with the crocodile
winning the race and getting a gold medal, and the cheating rat getting his comeuppance with coming in last place. An example of a resolution in a story is The lord of the rings The return of the king, in which the hero's defeat the main villains, and complete the tack they set out on in the first movie.
Narrative components
• Enigma• My story has no real enigma and this was a chose I just
didn’t think my story needed a puzzle or a mysterious it is simple and tells you what is going on and what everyone is thinking. An example of an enigma in a story is the movie memento in which the main character has memory loss and is trying to find the man who killed his wife the film jumps around and sometimes the audience doesn't know where they are and what is going on and is one of the few films that has surprises.
Narrative components
• Climax• The climax of the story is when the crocodile
sends the cheating rat back to last place and wins the race it changes the plans of the rat and completes the plans of the crocodile. An example of a climax in a story, is in the movie Aladdin when the main character meets the genie and gets his wishes.
Narrative components
• Manipulation of time and space• In no way does my story play with time and
space. It starts at the beginning and keeps on going until the end and doesn’t jump around the story. An example of this is the movie interstellar which plays with space and time all the way though the movie. It has big jumps through time and condenses time from scene to scene.
