Evaluation My Magazine cover follows the codes and conventions of the typical magazine cover. This is a masthead. Its positioned at the top of the cover like the typical magazine covers, as we can see on this real cover. The masthead is also large, and bold, making It easy to read and very noticeable like on other magazines. My magazine cover also has a date and issue number, despite not being on the ‘Men’sHealth’ cover, the issue number and date are often featured on magazine covers. On my magazine, they are positioned to the right side and hid under the masthead and its not too important, doesn’t say much about the magazine itself. I have also included several cover lines on my cover, which always feature on magazine covers. On the ‘Men’sHealth’ cover, they have included six cover lines, I have included four. Each one gives an insight to what is included inside the magazine. Another feature I have used is the use of a splash, which I’ve put the price inside. Once again, despite not being on the ‘Men’sHealth’ cover, splash’s and prices often feature on magazine covers. I have also included a barcode, hidden in the bottom left corner. These are another typical feature used on magazine covers. Something that is included on the ‘Men's Health’ cover, and isn’t displayed on mine, is a short description and further insight to chapters of the magazine under the cover lines. I will include these on my real magazine cover. MAGAZINE COVERS

MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGES

My Contents Page also follows the codes and conventions of a typical magazine contents page. My page has ‘contents’ clearly labelled at the top of the page, just like the ‘Q’ magazine. I use a basic font for the ‘contents’ so is easy to read.I have also included a number of images that give an insight to each chapter and link to the titles of each magazine section. On the ‘Q’ magazine, they also feature images that correspond with what is included inside. Chapter titles with a short description about the chapter also feature on my contents page and on the real contents page.

A persistent colour scheme is also used throughout the magazine contents.

Strengths & WeaknessesWeaknesses:

I could have potentially planned my magazine cover and contents page better, my drawn - out draft could have had more detail on to help with the finished draft.

Another weakness for my draft work was that we didn’t have access to many props for the front cover and therefore it doesn’t looks as good as the end magazine should hopefully look.

Quark was complicated to use at times and wasn’t as easy as Photoshop was to edit. Quark made the editing take longer and slightly more difficult.

Strengths:I Used Photoshop as the editing software which made

the editing easier, quicker and a lot smoother. Photoshop made the cover look quite professional and realistic too.

We used good quality cameras to take the images for both the cover and contents page so the pictures came out very good quality and looked professional.

We could use quark to create our contents page. Quark was difficult at times but was a good software to make the contents page look quite realistic.

Media Technology

We used the software ‘Photoshop’ to edit the magazine cover. Using Photoshop, we were able to edit with ease and make the cover look as professional as we possibly could. When we wanted to add something to the page, we would insert a new layer on Photoshop and type in a cover line for example. Photoshop was easy to follow and was a professional software that made the cover look decent.

Quark Express was the software we used to edit the contents page. Using quark, we were able to design a contents page with help guides and specific fonts were accessible to make the contents page look as realistic as possible. Personally, I found quark a lot more complicated than Photoshop but it was still a good professional software that improved the content on the contents page.
