HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES

IN THE CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH,

PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?

OVERVIEW

• We have used media technologies a lot throughout this project from

the; research, construction to the evaluation.

• This project wouldn’t have been as successful without the use of the

technologies that has been provided to us. From the use of Final Cut to

Photoshop.

• Media technologies have been essential in the creation of all of our

products.

RESEARCH

• The start of our use of media technologies was using blogger to present our

project. This is the home of all of our work, this allows us to present our

work in a digital way.

• We also used Prezi to complete some of our research into adverts used in

R&B. This helped us break down the advert into sections and explain what

effect this had on the overall look of the product. Also whether the product

did what it was supposed to which is attract an audience and advertise the

album.

• Media technologies was used in our research, this started by using the

programme Final Cut to compile our Audience Research. We inserted text

slides within the video stating the question we asked, this made it more clear

what the audience was responding too. It also made the finish of the video

more professional. It also started to show our basic editing skills which we

developed in our first year of study.

• We also used Youtube to complete research into our chosen genre and look

at inspirational videos that would help in the development of our own video.

CONSTRUCTION – VIDEO – BLACK AND WHITE

EFFECT • During the construction of the video we used a lot of techniques within

final cut to create our finished video. We used a black and white effect,

a split screen, a ‘swirl’ effect and markers to ensure the lip syncing was

accurate.

• To get the black and white effect on the footage we used effects, video

filters, image control and then selected tint. This changed the footage to

black and white

CONSTRUCTION – VIDEO – SPLIT SCREEN

• When thinking of doing a split screen in our music video we realised

we weren’t completely sure on how to do it so we searched for a

tutorial on YouTube which ran us through exactly how to do the split

screen.

• The first two clips were put on top of each other on Final Cut a white

box came over the second clip and by clicking the little squares in

the corners we could manipulate the clip to show the other clip

behind it.

• After moving the second image you can click on the first image

which will enable you to move that.

• We made them smaller and put both images side by side.

CONSTRUCTION – VIDEO – SWIRL

• The effect was found by looking in detail on final cut. We

found a few affects on here and tried them out on our shot

we decided to go with the whirlpool effect for our video.

• After looking back at the music video we realised that this

effect took away from the story line and we disliked this.

CONSTRUCTION - DIGIPAK

• To create our Digipak we have used a program called Photoshop.

This is also where we edited the images we took of the actress to use

on our Digipak. We did sometimes find this program challenging but

worked well with it.

• We loaded up a template onto photoshop to help us produce a good

clear digipak that was going to be the right size.

• For the images we used a black and white effect, we used this effect

as we have seen many other female artists use the same thing and

we wished to recreate this.

• We then used the curve to move the brightness of the black and

white around to bring out the colour’s a lot more.

CONSTRUCTION - ADVERT

• When creating our advert we felt putting a different colour on the

background to make it stand out.

• We found the photo filter on Photofilter this gave the image a tint, we

felt this helped make the poster look interesting.

• We both decided on the red tint for the image as it linked with other

images we had seen.

EVALUATION

• For our third question in the evaluation we also used final cut to

show how we have used and challenged the typical conventions of a

music video.

• We had uploaded videos to the program and also slotted our voice

over onto this. Enabling us to mute the sound from the music videos

and put the voice over on top.

• We also used a montage of shots from other music videos to keep

the audience interested in the clip.
