Evaluation 5- How did we attract/address our

audience?By Matt Bovill

Similar films and ideas used to attract the same target market

• Legend is a similar film to ours and we was influenced by this movie. We thought that because legend attracted a good a target market which we wanted our target market to be like. Legend got their target audience by creating a good movie, by all the different editing, the music in the background and the narrative opening. When our final cut of our movie is done we will use some of the ideas throughout the legend film to help us get a similar target audience.

Genre conventions• We used a few genre conventions such as a gangster which

is obviously a main part of a gangster thriller. Also, we used a very common characteristic which was a drug deal. Drugs are quite a common convention in a gangster thriller because it makes the more powerful characters in the movie look like they are higher up than everyone else. We chose the music we did because it is quite dark and sets the scene of our thriller and really relates to what our thriller is about. Most audience expectations of a thriller would be a gangster with a gang, having fights, doing drugs etc. We have applied most of these characteristics to our thriller to keep the common theme going of a gangster thriller.

Carry on of Genre conventions • We gave out questionnaires to the ages our film has targeted and

answers came back about an undercover policeman, also they liked the storyline of drugs involved and the policeman eventually catching the drug dealer. This made our minds up to follow the audiences views and go with it and as well we all liked the idea so it really worked for us. This will attract our audience because these are what the audience have told us so we know if we go along them lines they will enjoy it. We also made and added a few props such as fake money in the briefcase, and the packages with the drugs in them and these conventions relate to a gangster thriller.

Teaser posters • Many of the films attracted their audience by

teaser posters. These are normally released before the real film is announced. Teaser posters really attract an audience because it makes them want to know more and intrigues them to want to watch the film when it is out. This type of advertising was perfect for our opening because loads of people loved the name of our film and posters and if the teaser posters where good it would make the audience want to see it even more. Also, people's who don’t really know anything get a chance to get a insight to our film and sort of get ideas to what it is about.

USP

• Our unique selling point would be the storyline from other influences such as the departed which is also about an under cover police man which is the sort of idea we have gone for. Also, we run a pole and the departed come up quite popular so we decided that an idea along the lines of the film would be good for our target audience.

Social media

• We created a twitter page to have a direct relationship with our audience and also to promote our teasers and what we have been doing on the film making journey. We have tweeted things such as our prop making, us working on blogger to rack the posts up, pictures from the filming and just anything that really related to our film. Also, we created an Instagram to update our trailer to, pictures of the team at work, and also, to put our bloopers on.
