Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
• I feel that the combinations of both my main and ancillary texts were very effective. They have synergy because the magazine poster reflects the two main characters and the geek rom-com theme.
• It also identifies graphics, which relate to the storyline clearly such as a notebook, which is reflective of a school environment, which reflects the setting of the film
• I feel I linked the magazine, poster and the film well because it’s main focus is the characters; Charlie and Cleo
• Furthermore, I sought to bind my main and ancillary text by showing the complex nature of the character Charlie and this is shown on the poster by the many number of items on it, which surrounds him. This implies that there are many layers and angles to the short film. Therefore, I feel the ancillary text and the magazine poster, do inform the audience about the film and gives them a lot of information on it.
What could I have done better?
• The fact that I chose to make the characters dominant in the ancillary text however fails to recognise the other characters that have an impact on Charlie. For example, the bully, Simon and the sidekick Harold who both effect his actions and his behaviour, as well as his confidence.
• The text used is not seen in the short film, but that is because no text is used as the film focuses more on dialogue and conversation between the characters.
