The character Nicole from

Fear

Our character Elizabeth

Page 3: Evaluation 2 By Lara Faber-Johnson

Explanation of slide 2

• On slide 2, I chose a character called Nicole from a film called

Fear. This film is about a man who controls his girlfriend and

becomes extremely obsessive. ‘When Nicole met David;

handsome, charming, affectionate, he was everything. It seemed

perfect, but soon she sees that David has a darker side. And his

adoration turns to obsession, their dream into a nightmare, and

her love into fear.’ I chose Nicole because she is very similar to

our character, that Ophelia plays. Both character are madly in love

with there fellas and become wrapped around there fingers,

wearing rose tinted glasses but after time things change, their

man becomes obsessive and controlling but the woman stick by

their sides but this time mainly because of fear, remembering the

love they used to receive. Both hypnotised by love.

THE PICTURE ABOVE SHOWS HOW EXTREME HIS

OBSESSION WAS WITH NICOLE. (David from the film, FEAR).

He carved her name into his skin, and then rubbed black ink into

the words. Making his own version of a tattoo.

Differences

• While Nicole wears very provocative clothing, 80’s

outfits, short skirts and crop tops, our character that

Ophelia plays (Elizabeth) wears two different outfits,

one a white wedding dress which represents purity

and innocence, possibility of naivety, her devotion to

her husband, then some mini pj bottoms with one of

her husbands short sleeved big tops. Again the

colour white enforcing this idea of purity. Showing

that the two different characters wear very different

outfits, even though there story lines are pretty much

spot on similar.

This character is called Brad, he is from

our film.

This character is called David, from the

film ‘Fear’.

Similarities between David (from the film

Fear) and Brad (from our own production)

• In the film Fear, David one of the main characters, who is the controlling

obsessive boyfriend, wants Nicole to himself, so he cleverly cuts out and

pushes away her friends and family, do everything that he can. In our

opening, we see that, Brad (played by Ollie), does the same thing, when

Elizabeths mum calls, he tells her she's not aloud to answer, and he

answers for her, claiming that she is sleeping and that she will ring her back

later. Which clearly he wont allow her to do. David does the separation

process in a more charming way to start off with, but then does more violent

acts which even includes killing her best friend, threaghtening her dad and

accuses her dad of hurting him so Nicole doesn't want to be around him and

sleeps with her best friend. Our storyline in the opening has least twists and

is less dramatic in the way there are least deaths. Both David from the film

Fear and our actor Brad (Ollie) abuse their partners once clearly on screen.

Our actor does a less violent act due to our actors only being amateurs so

we couldn’t have fake punches in case it went wrong.

What does a production

company do?• A film production company is what it pretty much states in

the title. Produces company, takes in people who have an

idea, or a person who has written book and produces that

idea into an actual film screen viewing product. Sometimes

production companies approach someone who has written

a book and asks for the rights to turn it into a film and

sometimes a person may have an idea or has written an

actual script and thinks it could work as a film. A big

example of a film production company is Warner brothers,

which is based in Los Angles. A film production company

has many people working for them, and therefore have script

writers who will produce many ideas for a film, and the best

ones will be produced.

What kind of money would

our film generate:

• I discussed this question with Millie over and over, and

researched other films like ours to try and get some idea.

The thing is that this is our first film and this is our actors

first film as well, therefore our names and are actors

names are not known by the public, so wouldn't be

looking out to watch our film or watching our for films

made by us. The topic also makes it a film that would only

attract certain collection of people. This film could even be

possible used as a teaching tool. We don’t know how a

wider audience would react to our film. We hope that we

receive enough back to cover the costs and make a profit.

Who and why we mentioned

in the credits:• We decided to have the credits playing on the first half of the opening as the footage was playing

slowly and there isn't much going on, just the flashback of the wedding. We decided to have the

credits on the left hand corner over the black side, and had them in a white font so they stand out

but don’t distract the viewer from whats going on in the scene. As the wedding scene is still

important. We have placed our production logo ‘Broken Mirror Productions’ at the beginning of the

opening which takes up the whole screen and then the opening starts. This is usual for production

logos to be placed at the beginning for all films. We have done this to follow ‘typical conventions’.

We placed the credits in order of importance. To start off we had Ollie Lavis first, as he appears the

most and has the most lines. Following after we had Ophelia Cidey as she is clearly a main focus

but is second as she has no lines throughout and is a few less shots. Then we have Sam

Flippance, he is a very small part, just playing a priest at the wedding in the first half. His part may

of only been small but still was important and we appreciated his help and time. We again decided

to carry on using the typical conventions by putting in the directors name in next. Therefore my

name was next followed by Millie crediting her for the editing. There were a few names that were

missed out. Most importantly we missed out the artists who we used their songs and they should of

got credit, music is a big part of both half’s of our opening, and helped form our final result. Our

props were from various places, some brought, some found at home and some were kindly lent to

us by a woman called Debbie, who runs and owns my local post office. She should of been put in

the credits, she also got hold of the woman who runs my local church to get us permission to film

there. Therefore she really did deserve some credit.

EVALUATION 6

• What have you learnt about the technologies from

the process of constructing this process?

Page 21: Evaluation 2 By Lara Faber-Johnson

BLOGGER

• When Mr Bunce told us we would be making our own blogging account and

have to blog about our work, I was very nervous as i am not the best with

technology and I struggle with writing things down. After getting a few posts

down my confidence grew and I came to enjoy blogging. As I work best with

colours, I made sure all the text in my work was in different colours, in my

eyes making it more appealing to look at. Our teachers introduced us to two

new websites called Prezzie and Slideshare. Slideshare was my favourite

and the one i used the most because you could upload your work onto it and

then simply copy a link onto your blogger and it would be right there and

would work, where before I had issues with my word documents and Power

presentations on blogger so this was a quick easy solution. The other

problems I have had with Blogger is the fact its online, meaning when you

think you have uploaded something and then the internet goes and no draft

has been saved, and you then end up loosing a whole big bunch of work

you've just spent hours on. But on a over all view I have had a good

experience using Blogger.

Page 22: Evaluation 2 By Lara Faber-Johnson

iMovie

• iMovie was very much new to me and i had never used it before properly.

Luckily Millie had some experience editing so that was very useful and

meant we could crack on straight away with editing with no dramas. The

problem was that right at the beginning we were planning on filming on my

camera and the battery had been on charge the whole night before, after

taking a few test shots the camera went dead and because we had to be

quick before the lighting was going outside and we needed the light we

ended up having to film on my iPhone which was all fine. Although, once

we started editing we realised that because we had filmed the opening on

my iphone the whole movie was in portrait view and when the opening was

played on full screen it was slightly blurry which was at first a big problem

and after all the stresses and dramas we had just filming the bits we had

we really didn't want to have to film it all over again. In the end we had a

go changing the affects and made it into a home video style and that was a

new skill i learnt how to do.

Page 23: Evaluation 2 By Lara Faber-Johnson

SOCIAL NETWORKING

SITES USED:I used Youtube and Facebook to

present our film opening to the public.

The uploading process from iMovie to

youtube and iMovie to Facebook took

quite a while. But in the end we got it

up there, and i was taken back by how

many people viewed it but pleased.

EVALUATION 6

• Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what

do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Page 25: Evaluation 2 By Lara Faber-Johnson

• The problem is that our film opening has turned out completely

different than i imagined it to turn out. The script has changed and the

original idea has changed. The way we filmed it was unintentional but

that worked for the best. This evaluation question is a difficult one to

answer because its difficult for me to compare the different shot types

as in our final piece- Rose Tinted as we don’t have any shots that are

set, as we just filmed the footage constantly and smooth. There are a

few shots though that i can point out and so i will compare these shots

to the ones we took in the preliminary task.

Page 26: Evaluation 2 By Lara Faber-Johnson

Final Piece

Preliminary Task

I took a screenshot from this

scene in the preliminary task

and a screenshot from the

wedding in the final piece

because they are both Mid

shots. They compare well

because they are both very

similar even though at the same

time they are very different. In

the preliminary task we were

given set shots that we had to

capture and as you can we

therefore had practice for when

we did our final piece. This shot

that was taken in the final piece

is one of my favourite shots in

our whole production, in my

mind its clear what we are

wanting to show, a happy

couple clearly in love, setting

out to start their lives together.

Page 27: Evaluation 2 By Lara Faber-Johnson

This screenshots are

representing close up shots.

I chose these two

screenshots, one from the

preliminary task and the

other from our final piece

because they show clearly

that they are both close up

shots, they look similar

because their the same shot

but then again so different,

as they are from two

different scenes. Even

though are aim was for

Andrea are actress in the

first screenshot to look

angry, as Ollie does in the

second screenshot. If the

acting had been better in

our preliminary task then

you would of seen the

similar reactions, even if the

films were different story

lines. This is the only after

shot that we did the same as

the ones from the

preliminary tasks, I think this

shot has progressed from

the one we took of Andrea

in the preliminary task

showing the development of

our work and skills.
