Evaluating Peer Work

Name; Emily Turton

Activity 1

Use the mark scheme below and work in pairs to grade the 4 exemplar pieces of work. You must try and place the work into the correct level. Wherever possible you should use a best fit model, this means that you take an overall view rather than harshly penalising for one fault. Use the space provided to give specific examples and write a summary comment at the bottom of the page. You are examining the ENTIRE MAGAZINENON STOP POP

Minimal Level 110 23 marksBasic Level 2 2435 marksProficiencyLevel 3 3647 marksExcellenceLevel 44860 marks

framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate25- Bad positioning and framing eg. Cutting off arm on double page

using a variety of shot distances as appropriate22- mostly mid shots

shooting material appropriate to the task set24- clear but could be better quality photos

selecting mise-en-scne including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting26- basic mise-en-scene and no props used

manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing27- Most photos are sized OK but some have been cropped too much eg. Arm is cut off on double page

accurately using language and register23- register appropriate but some grammar use is incorrect eg. was instead of were

appropriately integrating illustration and text35- well laid out, text is organised but is slightly messy/too busy

showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design35- organised lay out, slightly messy

showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size28- too many fonts used, however this is also good because it shows variation

using ICT appropriately for the task set36- Photoshop is used well

Summary CommentI marked this magazine too harshly as it is actually level 3. However I realise now that it did tick the correct boxes and did the things that the exam board like. For example, multiple images and busy covers.

manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing27- Photos are resized and cropped to an appropriate size

accurately using language and register36- register used is appropriate, however some grammatical errors eg carnt

appropriately integrating illustration and text30- contents page text and images are laid out well, quote on double page hasnt been embedded correctly and cover page has been laid out well

showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design33- layout has been organised and structured well. Slight alterations could be made eg text on double page

showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size33- slight variety of fonts but could be more. Good variety of sizes.

using ICT appropriately for the task set33- Photoshop used well

Summary CommentI marked this magazine slightly too harsh as it reached level 3. I realise now that it does deserve level 3 especially because of the amount of images used and the bust style to it.

shooting material appropriate to the task set36- appropriate camera used, but to gain more marks, cover photo could have been better quality

selecting mise-en-scne including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting45- Variety of mise-en-scene and props used. Colours used complement each other well, so well thought out

using ICT appropriately for the task set45- ICT used well, Photoshop is used well, eg cutting out image on front cover

Summary CommentThis magazine received level 3, therefore I was correct mostly with my marking. I can see now why it might not reach level 4, its professional but not quite excellent, especially the layout of the images.

DUBZONE

using a variety of shot distances as appropriate40- slight variation but could be other shots

shooting material appropriate to the task set35- good camera used but quality could be improved

manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing35- cutting out of images well, resizing appropriate.

accurately using language and register34- relatively appropriate language with the correct register for the piece of writing and audience

appropriately integrating illustration and text35- Images and text integrating well but slight alterations could be appropriate eg text on double page could be laid out so it doesnt cover the images as much

showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design34- Layout is appropriate, the images and text work well together. However there is some overlapping which could be changed.

showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size35- A few different font and sizes are used however to improve mark, a bigger variety could be used.

using ICT appropriately for the task set34- Photoshop is used well, however basic things have been done eg using a coloured text box

Summary CommentI marked this magazine too highly as it actually only reached level 1. I realise now that the overall magazine is very basic and doesnt have a structure to it. There arent enough images and the fonts dont link together well. The text layout on the double page hasnt been done well as some of the text go over the box that they are meant to be in.

Task 2Now using the skills youve acquired in task 1, evaluate your own work and then two pieces of work from classmates. Use the space provided to give specific examples and write a summary comment at the bottom of the page.
