In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? What makes my product a recognizable opening sequence? One way that our opening sequence is recognizable is using idents. Very often we see the company distribution and production I dent appear before the film starts, a common theme for Idents is to show 2-4 before the film starts and this is evident in our opening sequence as we use 2 Idents (Image 1 & 2). It’s also important that Idents aren't too long, a good rule of thumb is not to go over 10 –15 seconds. Our own Idents (Image 1) is 9 seconds long this includes the time it takes to fade to black, our other ident is only 5 seconds long (Image 2) this is a rather common duration for idents to be show for. An example I found of this being used in other films is harry potter using warner bros ident that is under 15 seconds. This film shows how idents have a common duration that they are played floor we can expect this to be typical in the film industry especially they are short if the ident is less complex in its presentation and universal pictures is under 5 seconds long. Another example of why our introduction is recognizable is by using credits to show to the audience that it’s an opening sequence. This is very common across lots and lots of different types of films and is very often done at the start of the film, for example Dexter’s iconic credits sequence. For our credits, we used a white text to help contrast with the dark theme out shots have not only does this make them easier to read but as the credits are such a different color this hints that not everything is set to one idea, this can tell the audience that there is something different about our film as most thriller films would try and use credits that suit their film and by breaking this convention it makes our film stand out. Credits tell our audience that they are watching an opening sequence, and this should help establish a genre of the film they're watching. We also cut to a lot of different shots this is generally the editing style of opening sequences as it gives you a lot of information about the different characters in a short amount of time.

It’s also important that

Idents aren't too long, a good rule of thumb is not to go over 10 –15 seconds. Our own Idents (Image 1) is 9 seconds long this includes the time it takes to fade to black, our other ident is only 5 seconds long (Image 2) this is a rather common duration for idents to be show for. An example I found of this being used in other films is harry potter using

warner bros ident that is under 15 seconds. This film shows how idents have a common duration that they are played floor we can expect this to be typical in the film industry

especially they are short if the ident is less complex in its presentation and universal pictures is under 5 seconds long.

In our film, we chose good locations to set the genre of the film for instance we have a shot of a dark allay in which Lucy is being stalked as well as this we also thought about how our characters are introduced especially the stalkers as we first see them following Lucy this sets the tone for the film and reinforces he genre. In this shot we also used post production to darken the whole scene this is commonly associated with evil or horror, because of this I feel as if we introduced our stalkers in a great way combining many areas of media to create an effective introduction to our characters which then emphasizes the genre of the film.

I also believe that the narrative is set up quite well in this shot as we are introduced to new characters that are

following Lucy this sets the genre up for this film straight away which I think is important because it means the audience is more likely to continue watching if they wanted to see a thriller rather than watching for a while to find out what type of genre it is. The stalking of Lucy tells the audience that the film is going to be dark and involve a few twists and turns as the audience doesn’t find out why they are following her this indicates to the audience threat they will find out later and it may come as a surprise as other films often revel a twist in some way or fashion for example Oblivion has a twist at the end that shocks and surprises the audience and made the film worthwhile, we aim to do the same with our film.
