DISTRIBUTE YOUR

MEDIA PRODUCT AND

WHY?

IPC Media are the UK’s leading publishing company with a

national audience of around 26 million. IPC Media has

three separate publishing divisions that each specialise in

different types of magazine. These divisions are:

• IPC Connect- specialising in mass market women’s

magazines such as “Now”

• IPC Inspire-specialising in men’s magazines such as

“Nuts” and “NME”

• IPC Southbank- specialising in the up market women’s

magazine sector with magazines such as “Marie Claire”

IPC Media would be a good institution to distribute my magazine as they do not

currently distribute a magazine that is exactly like mine and I believe there to be a gap

in the market for my music magazine to fill. As this company already distributes

magazines similar to mine such as NME, this leads me to believe that they will be

interested in also publishing something slightly different to NME that is aimed at a

slightly niche audience compared to NME.

As IPC Media have such a diverse portfolio of audiences, I think the company would

easily be able to distribute my magazine to reach its niche target audience as IPC

have a lot of experience in appealing products to specific audiences to maximize sales.

The price range of magazines published by IPC is also very varied so the price of

£4.00 for my magazine will fit in nicely into the portfolio of magazine currently

distributed by IPC Media.

It could be argued that this company would be wasting their time publishing and

distributing a magazine that has a slightly niche audience as their scale is so large it

would not be greatly economically beneficial to them to do so. However, I believe that

IPC Media could benefit from distributing my magazine, as although my audience for

my magazine is relatively small, they are located nationally in different parts of the

country and not confined in one area so the company itself would gain national

recognition, which could lead to increased sales in other magazines that they

distribute. It is for this reason why Havoc magazine would need a large distributer in

order to reach the full target audience and I think that IPC Media is that company.

As fashion is so closely linked to music, the clothing advertisements placed throughout

Havoc magazine will be from brands that the target audience will be aware of and will

be able to relate and associate to the magazine. The brands advertised and endorsed

by Havoc magazine will be brands that are frequently worn by both band members of

the Indie/Alternative genre and the audience of the genre. These advertisements will

reinforce the reader that the magazine is suited to them and will lead a higher chance

of the reader buying the magazine again.
