Envirogen and US

Filter work on MTBE markets

Envirogen Inc., and US Filter Corp., have signed an agreement to jointly pursue two new market opportuni- ties for water treatment technology.

The companies will col- laborate on the further development of fluidized bed reactor (FBR) technol- ogy for the biological treat- ment of methyl-tert-butyl- ether (MTBE), a common gasoline additive and a sig- nificant groundwater conta- minant in the United States. It was reported that US Filter and Envirogen intend to maximize and accelerate the acceptance and use of FBR technology.

To achieve this, the companies will utilise US Filter’s Envirex FBR tech- nology, while Envirogen will focus on the development of advanced biological cat- alysts to be used in FBR systems. It is thought this will provide specific treat- ment solutions, including proprietary technology for the efficient biodegradation of MTBE.
