European Class – the Concept
• Vocational training based on units of learning outcomes (LOs) referenced to NQF/EQF
• Training carried out as 2-3 weeks (at least) school based transnational mobility
• Work processes & Los in line with industries’/companies’ skills needs
• Units of LOs in line with national VET qualifications
• Pedagogical approach – transnational project teams working on reality basedtasks/projects to practice transversal skills as well as linguistic, intercultural, & social skills
• Training in English using modern equipment & invited speakers from the work place on ’hot topics’
• Formative assessment schemes: assessing knowledge, skills & competencesdescribed in the units. Based on mutual trust & encompassing professionalskills. Possible to achieve international certificates/diplomas in some cases!
• All European Class students receive a Europass Mobility to recognize theirachieved learning outcomes
KUNGSBACKA KOMMUN
Questions to students of the European Class
in welding, automation & trucks maintenance
• What’s your name and what VET program do you study?
• Which European class did you attend?
• Can you describe a normal day in the European class during your mobility?
• What did you do in your spare time?
• Where did you stay - Hotel? Family? Hostel?
• How did documents like the Learning agreement and the learning
outcomes support you when preparing for the mobility?
• What was the main difference of the European class from school at home?
• Do you have any advice to other students or teachers interested in
attneding or setting up a European Class?
• Any advice to us for the future?

Why ECVET & EQF?
“There is great diversity in the European landscape of vocational education
and training systems. To transfer qualification from one system to another
may be difficult when some are based on units and credit points, others are
based on tasks and work processes.”
ECVET & EQF = European tools to describe & reference
learning content to make it possible to transfer & formally
recognize it
• EQF = European Qualification
Framework
• ECVET = European Credit system for
Vocational Education and Training
KUNGSBACKA KOMMUN
European Class – Using ECVET
• Memorandum of understanding – agreement to identify & describe:
involved organizations; unit of learning outcomes (LOs) for the mobility; quality
criteria of the European Class; roles & responsibilities
• Learning agreement – document to identify: student; host & receiving
organizations; unit of LOs; assessment scheme; responsibilities of each
party…
• Units of learning outcomes – training content for the mobility. Learning
outcomes defined in terms of: knowledge, skills, and competences
• Assessment – arrangement for the theoretical & practical assessment
evaluating the student’s achieved learning outcomes.
• Recognition process – arrangement for the transfer & recognition of the
achieved LOs. LOs are accumulated & recognized as part of the national VET
(in the transcript of record). All students receive a Europass Mobility. Units are
referenced to NQF/(EQF).

EUCVET Results
• Units of learning outcomes:Industrial automation – Industrial Robotic Systems; HMI screensTrucks maintenance - Air conditioning; Pneumatic brake systems; Hydraulic systems; Fault tracing strategies in engine management systems
• Assessment schemes to assess knowledge, skills, and competences (even at different EQF levels – industrial automation). Focus on professional skills – in some cases opportunity to achieve a professional license/certificate)
• ECVET introduction – the EUCVET Game- To introduce the ECVET terminology- To introduce the European Class concept- To introduce the Europass Mobility document- To improve people’s EU knowhow
• Updated templates for organizing a European Class:- Memorandum of understanding- Learning agreement- Student Application for Mobility- Preparation Assignment for Mobility
• And a lot more to support you to set up your own European Classes!
KUNGSBACKA KOMMUN
Lessons learned working on ECVET
Establishing a mutual platform & language
• We share the same challenges organizing either transnational mobility or work
based learning at home!
• ECVET is new to most! Create an ECVET Glossary in which the national VETs
are described in terms of ECVET
Creating mutual trust & Memorandum of Understanding
• Visit each other to see the facilities & equipment
Creating units & describing LOs
• Really important to involve VET teachers from start in the process
• Learning outcomes should be measurable & detailed
Using a Learning Agreement (LA)
• Young VET students must be able to understand the content & aim of the LA
Assessing international students
• A real challenge! Focus on professional skills & practices common for the job
profile! Agree on ways to assess different EQF levels!
KUNGSBACKA KOMMUN
European Class - Impact• New VET programmes wanting to develop European Classes, e.g. Health &
Social care encompassing welfare technology (aim - KA.2 2017)
• Invited speakers/participants to a number of European, Nordic, national, regional
& local events (wide range of stakeholders & target groups)
• Pedagogical development – experience & idea to teach for skills & competences
(transversal skills)
• Media attention, e.g national & local TV in Turkey covering the European Class in
industrial automation
• Local ECVET network in Kungsbacka initiated practicing ECVET for mobility
• Member of the Swedish ECVET Expert Team
• Invitation to the Faculty of Education in Gothenburg, Sweden, to speak about
describing & assessing learning outcomes
• Invitation to KA.2 project to transfer European Class experiences & results to
develop units for student & staff mobility encompassing Industry 4.0
Take part of the European Class experience!
