    1 Overview1.1 Introduction

    ETP48200-C5A1 and ETP48200-C5A3 are embedded telecom power systems that supplypower to -48 V DC communications equipment with a maximum current of 200 A.

    1.2 Model Number DescriptionFigure 1-1shows the model number description for the ETP48200-C5A1 and

    ETP48200-C5A3.

    1.3 System Features Wide voltage range of 85 V AC to 300 V AC.

    Comprehensive battery management.

    Network application over a fast Ethernet (FE) port and an RS485/RS232 port.

    Communication with Huawei NetEco or third-party network management systems(NMSs) over protocols such as the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) andHypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) to enable remote management and

    unattended working.

    Remote software upgrade.

    Rectifier power factor up to 0.99.

    1.4 Working PrinciplesFigure 1-2shows the conceptual diagram. AC power enters rectifiers through the AC power

    distribution unit (PDU). The rectifiers convert the AC power input into -48 V DC power

    output, which is directed by the DC PDU to DC loads along different routes.

    When the AC power is normal, rectifiers power DC loads and charge batteries. When the AC

    power is absent, rectifiers stop working and batteries start to power loads. After the AC powerresumes, rectifiers power DC loads and charge batteries again.

    The SMU monitors the operating status of each component in the power system in real time

    and performs appropriate intelligent control. When detecting a fault, the SMU generates an

    alarm.

    3 Safety3.1 Health and Safety

    3.1.1 Overview

    Introduction

    This section describes the safety precautions you must take before installing or maintaining

    Huawei equipment.

    To ensure safety of humans and the equipment, pay attention to the safety symbols on theequipment and all the safety instructions in this document.

    The "NOTICE", "CAUTION", "WARNING", and "DANGER" statements in this

    document do not represent all the safety instructions. They are only supplements to thesafety instructions.

    Installation and maintenance personnel must understand basic safety precautions to avoidhazards.

    When operating Huawei equipment, in addition to following the general precautions in

    this document, follow the specific safety instructions given by Huawei.

    Only trained and qualified personnel are allowed to install, operate, and maintain Huaweiequipment.

    This product should be used in the environment that meets design specifications.

    Otherwise, the product may be damaged, and the resulting product exceptions or

    component damage are beyond the warranty scope.

    Local Safety Regulations

    When operating Huawei equipment, you must follow the local laws and regulations. The

    safety instructions in this document are only supplements to the local laws and regulations.

    General Requirements

    To minimize risk of personal injury and damage to equipment, read and follow all the

    precautions in this document before performing any installation or maintenance.

    Ensure that the instructions provided in this document are followed completely. This sectionalso provides guidelines for selecting the measuring and testing devices.

    Installation The device (or system) must be installed in an access-controlled location.

    The device can be mounted only on concrete or non-combustible surfaces.

    The device must be fixed securely on the floor or to other immovable objects such aswalls and mounting racks before operation.

    When installing the unit, always make the ground connection first and disconnect it at

    the end.

    Do not block the ventilation while the device is operating. Keep a minimum distance of 5cm between the device and the wall or other objects that may block the ventilation.

    Tighten the thumbscrews by using a tool after initial installation and subsequent access

    to the panel.

    Ground Do not damage the ground conductor or operate the device in the absence of a properly

    installed ground conductor. Conduct the electrical inspection carefully.

    The device (or system) must be connected permanently to the protection ground beforean operation. The cross-sectional area of the protective ground conductor must be at least10 mm

    2.

    Power Supply For AC-supplied models: The device applies to TN, TT, or IT power system.

    For DC-supplied models: Reinforced insulation or double insulation must be provided toisolate the DC source from the AC mains supply.

    For DC-supplied model: The device applies to DC power source that complies with the

    Safety Extra-Low Voltage (SELV) requirements in IEC 60950-1 based safety standards. Prepared conductors are connected to the terminal block, and only the appropriate

    AWG/Type of wire is secured with the lug terminals.

    Human Safety Do not operate the device or cables during lightning strikes.

    Remove the AC power connector when there is lightning. Do not use fixed terminals or

    touch terminals or antenna connectors when there is lightning.

    To avoid electric shock, do not connect safety extra-low voltage (SELV) circuits totelecommunication network voltage (TNV) circuits.

    Move or lift the chassis by holding its lower edge. Do not hold the handles on certain

    modules such as power supply, fans, and boards because they cannot support the weightof the device.

    At least two persons are required to lift the chassis. When lifting it, keep your backstraight and move stably.

    Do not wear jewelry or watches when you operate the device.

    Operator Only qualified professional personnel are allowed to install, configure, operate, and

    disassemble the device.

    Only the personnel authenticated or authorized by Huawei are allowed to replace or

    change the device of the parts of the device (including the software).

    Any fault or error that might cause safety problems must be reported immediately to asupervisor.

    Only qualified personnel are allowed to remove or disable the safety facilities and to

    troubleshoot and maintain the device.

    3.1.2 Electrical Safety

    High Voltage

    The high voltage power supply provides power for the device operation. Direct or indirectcontact (through damp objects) with high voltage and AC mains supply may result in serious

    injuries.

    During the installation of the AC power supply facility, follow the local safetyregulations. The personnel who install the AC facility must be qualified to perform highvoltage and AC operations.

    Do not wear conductive articles, such as watches, hand chains, bracelets, and rings

    during the operation.

    When water is found in the rack or the rack is damp, switch off the power supplyimmediately.

    When the operation is performed in a damp environment, make sure that the device is

    dry.

    Non-standard and improper high voltage operations may result in fire and electric shock.

    Therefore, you must abide by the local rules and regulations when bridging and wiring AC

    cables. Only qualified personnel are allowed to perform high voltage and AC operations.

    Before powering on a device, ground the device. Otherwise, personal injury or device damage

    may be caused by high leakage current.

    Dedicated tools must be used during high voltage and AC operations. Avoid using ordinary

    tools.

    High Electrical Leakage

    Ground the device before powering it on. Otherwise, personal injury or device damage maybe caused by high leakage current.

    If the "high electrical leakage" tag is present on the power terminal of the device, you mustground the device before powering it on.

    3.1.3 Inflammable Environment

    Operating the electrical device in an inflammable environment can be fatal.

    Do not place the device in an environment that has inflammable and explosive air or gas. Donot perform any operation in this environment.

    3.1.4 Mechanical Safety

    Drilling Holes

    Do not drill the cabinet at will. Drilling holes without complying with the requirements affectsthe electromagnetic shielding performance of the cabinet and damages the cables inside the

    cabinet. In addition, if the scraps caused by drilling enter the cabinet, the printed circuit

    boards (PCBs) may be short circuited.

    Before you drill a hole in the cabinet, wear insulated gloves and remove the internal

    cables from the cabinet.

    Wear an eye protector when drilling holes. This is to prevent your eyes from being

    injured by the splashing metal scraps.

    Ensure that the scraps caused by drilling do not enter the cabinet.

    Drilling holes without complying with the requirements affects the electromagnetic

    shielding performance of the cabinet.

    After drilling, clean the metal scraps immediately.

    Sharp Objects

    Before you hold or carry a device, wear protective gloves to avoid getting injured by sharp

    edges of the device.

    Handling Fans

    When handling fans, note the following:

    When replacing a component, place the component, screws, and tools in a safe place.

    Otherwise, if any of them fall into the operating fans, the fans may be damaged.

    When replacing a component near fans, do not insert your fingers or boards into theoperating fans until the fans are switched off and stops running.

    Lifting Heavy Objects

    When heavy objects are being lifted, do not stand or walk under the cantilever or the liftedobject.

    3.1.5 Bundling Signal Cables

    Do not bundle signal cables with high current cables or high voltage cables.

    Maintain a minimum space of 150 mm between adjacent ties.

    If the "high electrical leakage" tag is present on the power terminal of the device, you must

    ground the device before powering it on.

    3.2.2 Electrostatic Discharge

    The static electricity generated by human bodies may damage the electrostatic-sensitive

    components on boards, for example, the large-scale integrated (LSI) circuits.

    Human body movement, friction between human bodies and clothes, friction between shoesand floors, or handling of plastic articles causes static electromagnetic fields on human bodies.

    These static electromagnetic fields cannot be eliminated until the static is discharged.

    To prevent electrostatic-sensitive components from being damaged by the static on humanbodies, you must wear a well-grounded electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap when

    touching the device or handling boards or application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

    3.2.3 Laying Out Cables

    When the temperature is very low, violent strike or vibration may damage the cable sheathing.

    To ensure safety, comply with the following requirements:

    Cables can be laid or installed only when the temperature is higher than 0C.

    Before laying out cables which have been stored in a temperature lower than 0C, movethe cables to an environment of the ambient temperature and store them at the ambient

    temperature for at least 24 hours.

    Handle cables with caution, especially at a low temperature. Do not drop the cables

    directly from the vehicle.

    3.2.4 Rectifier

    When a rectifier is running, the temperature around the air exhaust vent at the rear ishigh. Do not touch the vent or cover the vent with cables or other objects.

    To prevent electric shocks, do not put your hands into rectifier slots.

    4.1.2 Installation Space

    Figure 4-2shows the required installation space.

    4.1.3 Requirements for Cable Routing

    The bending semidiameter of power cables and ground cables should be greater than or

    equal to three times the diameter of the power cables and ground cables respectively.

    The bending semidiameter of signal cables should be greater than or equal to five timesthe diameter of the signal cables.

    Cables of the same type should be bound together. Cables of different types should keepa minimum distance of 30 mm from each other to avoid tangles.

    Cables that are bound together should be close to each other, neat, and free of damage.

    The protection ground cables must not be bound to or tangled with the signal cables. An

    appropriate distance should be left between them to minimize interruption.

    AC power cables, DC power cables, signal cables, and communications cables must bebound separately.

    Power cables must be routed straightly. No joint or weld can be found in a power cable.

    In case of insufficient cable length, use a longer cable.

    4.1.4 Unpacking and Acceptance

    Procedure

    Step 1 Check whether packing cases are intact. If a packing case is severely damaged or wet, identifythe cause and report to the local Huawei office.

    Step 2 Unpack the case.

    Step 3 Check the quantity of components against the packing lists attached to the packing cases. Ifthe quantity differs from that specified on the packing lists, identify the cause and report to the

    local Huawei office.

    4.3.1 Installing a Rectifier

    Prerequisites Rectifiers are found intact after unpacking and check. In case of any discrepancy, contact

    your local Huawei office.

    The filler panels on the slot for installing the rectifiers have been removed from the

    cabinet.

    Procedure

    Step 1 Push the locking latch towards the left.

    Step 2 Draw the handle downwards.

    Step 3 Gently push a rectifier into its slot along the guide rail.

    Step 4 Push the handle upwards.

    Step 5 Push the locking latch towards the right to secure the handle.

    Put on an insulation covering when using a screwdriver and tools alike. Otherwise, the

    batteries would be burnt out and cause damage to human body. Switch off battery circuit breakers before installing batteries.

    During battery installation, never short-circuit or reversely connect positive and negative

    battery terminals. Connect the negative battery cable before the positive battery cable.

    Secure battery cables to a torque specified in battery documentation. Loose connectionswill result in excessive voltage drop or cause batteries to burn out when the current is

    large.

    Procedure

    Step 1 Connect negative battery cables to the battery circuit breakers.

    Step 2 Connect positive battery cables to the RTN+ busbar.

    When only one battery string is required, connect it to the place numbered 1, as shown in

    6 Commissioning6.1 Connecting the AC Power

    Procedure

    Step 1 Measure the input voltage on the AC input circuit breaker. The value should range from 85 VAC to 300 V AC.

    Step 2 Switch on the AC input circuit breaker and measure the output voltage on the AC input circuitbreaker. The value should range from 85 V AC to 300 V AC.

    Step 3 Check that the indicators on the rectifiers are steady on.

    Step 4 Measure the voltage between the -48 V busbar and the RTN+ busbar. The value should rangefrom -42 V DC to -58 V DC.

    6.2 Setting the Display Language

    After powering on the SMU, select English by pressing or on the LCD, and then

    press to enter the standby screen.

    If you select an undesired language, remove and then insert the SMU. Select a language again after the

    SMU restarts.

    6.3 Setting the Date and Time

    The LCD screen becomes dark if no button is pressed within 30 seconds.

    You need to log in again if no button is pressed within 1 minute.

    You can query the power system operating status, active alarms, and the names ofuser-defined dry contact inputs, and configure dry contact outputs on the network

    management system (NMS) that is connected over the Simple Network Management Protocol(SNMP).

    6.9 Connecting the Battery Supply

    Prerequisites

    To avoid damage to batteries, switch on the battery circuit breaker only after correctly setting

    the battery parameters.

    Procedure

    Step 1 Switch off the AC input circuit breaker.

    Step 2 Switch on the battery circuit breakers.

    Step 3 Switch on the AC input circuit breaker.

    Step 4 Set all the circuit breakers based on site requirements.

    Step 5 Observe the power system for 15 minutes. During this period of time, if no alarm is generatedon the LCD of the SMU, the voltages and currents for batteries and loads are normal.

    under automatic control. Open the cover and flip the battery switch to MANUAL only when you need to power on

    the battery forcibly. Remember to flip the battery back to AUTO after the commissioning.

    7.2 Rectifying Common Faults

    7.2.1 Mains Failure

    Possible Causes The AC input power cable is faulty.

    The AC input circuit breaker is OFF.

    The mains grid is faulty.

    Measures

    1. Check whether the AC input cable is loose. If yes, secure the AC input cable.

    2. Check whether the AC input circuit breaker is OFF. If yes, handle the back-end circuitfailure and then switch on the circuit breaker.

    3. Check whether the AC input voltage is lower than 50 V AC. If yes, handle the mainsgrid fault.

    7.2.2 AC Over Volt

    Possible Causes The AC overvoltage alarm threshold is not set properly on the SMU.

    The power grid is faulty.

    Measures

    1. Check whether the AC overvoltage alarm threshold is properly set. If no, adjust it to aproper value.

    2. Check whether the AC input voltage exceeds the AC overvoltage alarm threshold (280 VAC by default). If yes, handle the AC input fault.

    7.2.3 AC Under Volt

    Possible Causes The AC undervoltage alarm threshold is not set properly on the SMU.

    The power grid is faulty.

    Measures

    1. Check whether the AC undervoltage alarm threshold is properly set. If no, adjust it to aproper value.

    2. Check whether the AC input voltage is below the AC undervoltage alarm threshold (180V AC by default). If yes, handle the AC input fault.
