Dryobalanops aromatica
Good quality wood
NTFPs: oils, gums and crystal
Oils and crystals have been utilized since 851 AD
Kapur/kamper wood
Biomedicine:
The Arabian medicine states that kapur crystal can be
used as a gall remedy; inflammation of the liver; teeth;
eye medication.
In the Persian medicine, it was used for nosebleeds;
cool the kidneys and bladder, heart disease and
excessive lust.
Kapur crystal can also strengthen the heart by
Armenian Medicinal Science.
Antioxidants
to protect our body
from free radicals. Natural sources: vegetables, fruit (tocoferol, ascorbic acid, carotenoid, poliphenol dan flavonoid), green tea (polyphenol), milk (amino acid), fish and vitamin.
Free radicals is an unstable
atomic or molecule.

Objectives
to elaborate the ethnopharmacological and
antioxidant activity of Dryobalanops aromatica
Ethnophar macology
• Ethopharmacology study was conducted on the aplication of kapur that used as a remedy by locals comunity. The method used is in-depth interviews with some of the local people
Phytochemical testing
• The testing was done on crude extract of Dryobalanops aromatica (wood, leaves, and crystal). The phytochemical compound was qualitatively examined in the crude extract included flavonoid, tannin, saponin, triterpenoid, steriod, hydroquinon and alkaloid
Antioxidant activity
• The free radical scavenging activity of the extract was based on the scavenging activity of the stable 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical that was determined by Blois (1958) method
Methodology
DPPH Method for Antioxidant Activity Analysis
Extract made in 5, 7.5,
10, 15, 25, 50 and 75 ppm
add 500 µl DPPH 1mM in methanol
and tare with methanol up to 5 ml
Incubated at 370 C temperatures
during 30 minutes
Absorption was measured with UV-VIS
spectrophotometer at 515 nm wavelength
IC 50
Stock solution 1000 ppm
in metanol
The free radical scavenging activity of the extract, base on the
scavenging activity of the stable 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)
free radical was determined by method described by Blois (1958).
Result and Discussion
The oils as one of the NTFPs items from this
species have been used a lot by local people as
medicine to cure health problems, such as
wound healing, liniment, stomachache, catching-
cold remedy, and toothache. The oils is applied
by rubbing the oil on the pain body.

CONCLUSIONS
Ethnopharmacology study revealed that the oils as one of the NTFPs items from this species have been used a lot by local people as medicine to cure human-health troubles, such as wound healing, liniment, stomachache, catching-cold remedy, and toothache
Based on the result of testing antioxidant activity, it can be concluded that the Dryobalanops aromatica has the potency as natural antioxidant source
