Short handicraft courses!

Courses last up to 2 hours, prize depends on the number of participants.

10-12 participants - 20 € per person7-9 participants - 25 € per person

Individual workshops and bigger/smaller groups, please ask for prize reference.

Prizes include teachers fee, all materials, coffee break and snacks.

NEEDLE FELTING

Needle felting is a simple technique that allows to create a wide

variety of forms and figures. For shaping wool a special needle is

used.During the course the participants

will make a brooch with the national ornament.

BEADED NECLACESThe beaded necklaces were the mandatory part

to wear with the national costumes and they were also worn with everyday clothes.

Women wore beads day and night, women took the beads with them even to the afterlife. People believed in the healing influence of

the beads, black grooved beads were believed to have a special magical power.

The tradition says that if a person was wearing beads, evil had no power. According to the old tradition the

godparents gave beads to baby girls.In some parts in Estonia, there was a tradition

that a godparent gave a gift of beads for the first tooth. Over the time, more beads were

collected and an entire row could be formed around the neck

During the course participants choose the beads and form them into a beaded necklace.

WOOD BLOCK PRINTING

Wood block printing is one of oldest printing methods. Using a wooden carved block it is possible to print

shapes onto a canvas, paper or other materials.

During the workshop the participants will use ready made blocks to print a

tablecloth.For printing the professional textile

colours are used. The finished tablecloths are usable and may be

washed in washing machine.

COTTON FABRIC NECLACEBecause almost all the fabrics used in

farms for clothing and other purposes were home made the

fabric that came from shops were highly appreciated and desired

among women. The fine cotton fabric was used for making aprons,

headscarf's and summer jackets. Even the smallest fabric pieces were used to make knitting needle purses

and fabric tassels. During the workshop the participants will make

a cotton fabric necklace.

HANDICRAFT DAY!Workshops lasting 8 hours, prize depends on number of

participants.

10-12 participants - 40 € per person7-9 participants - 45 € per persons

The course requires a basic level skills on embroidery or crochet!

All prizes include: teachers fee, all materials needed, coffee break and snacks.

EMBROIDERY FROM MUHU ISLAND

The embroidery from Muhu island may really be called the “Queen” of the embroidery. Those colourful and

joyful floral patterns will be made under the guidance of master

embroiderer Silja Nõu.

SETO LACE

From the Estonian national laces the Seto lace is one of the most unusual. The

bright and colourful crochet lace from Setomaa, South-East part of Estonia, was started to make from mid 19th

century. Seto people decorated with lace everything: folk costumes and other clothes, home and ritual textiles etc.

Seto lace is one of the kind and made of fine wool tread.

This kind of lace is not known nowhere else in Europe nor in Northern countries.

Teacher of this lace workshop is Ulve Kangro, master handcrafter
