Ukrainian-Swiss Mother and Child Health Program

Program has two main targets:

To improve quality and efficiency of perinatal services;

To support Maternal Child Health (MCH) reform efforts with policy

development and capacity building.

On-going since 2005

Establishment of simulation centers in four perinatal hospitals in

Ukraine:

• Crimea

• Ivano-Frankivsk

• Vinnytsia

• Volyn

Interest for developing a handbook for MCH Simulation Centres…

Growing evidence that Simulation Based

Medical Education (SBME) has a

substantial positive impact on the daily

practice routine of health professionals in

Ukraine

Interest of other Ukrainian Regions in

adopting this innovative training/teaching

methodology

Objective

Guide professional communities within Ukraine and in other

countries where SBME has not been developed yet on

establishing Simulation Centres

Creating the handbook…

1. Content and chapters definition (Workshop with International/National

experts and PIO)

2. Assignment of authors/contributors and proof-readers. Includes

International/National experts in the areas of expertise: • Health Project Management

• Medical Education and Medical Simulation

• Health Technology Planning

• Medical Specialists such as Obstetricians, Anaesthesiologists,

Gynaecologist, Neonatologists, Paediatrics, Intensive Care

3. Draft creation and proof-reading of each chapter

4. Translation and Publishing

Divided in two main chapters:

Part I – Simulation Centres

Concepts, educational grounding, international experiences

Part II – Implementation

Implementation phases, resources, M&E, Stakeholders and Planning

8 March 24, 2015 Establishing a Simulation Centre: Essentials and Guidelines

-> Educational grounding: achieving health system goals, defining educational objectives

-> International Experiences: examples of SBME from Moldova, Portugal and Tajikistan

-> Ukrainian Development Approach: overview of MCH Program experience

-> Concepts definition: basic concepts and didactic approaches used in SBME
