Fr. Bogdan’s Corner Last Sunday Holy Father Pope Francis closed the 36th World Youth Day in Panama, located in Central America. He spent five days with young people from all over the world to pray, to learn, to share and to teach them. The last World Youth Day was in Poland in 2016, where we had 4 youth from our parish who attended. Holy Father, in his address invited young people to rediscover and reawaken the Church, by proclaiming the Lord through service to our brothers and sisters. When we are on the road together, we can serve each other. The youth gathered together from all over the world. Each one of them who were from different cultures, backgrounds and situations had felt like brothers and sisters to Jesus and to each other. The Church Jesus had founded is not a collection of truths to be believed, of rules to be followed, or of prohibitions. The Church is a community of love, a community of enthusiastic young disciples of Jesus who follow the dream to find love and to be loved, to find love that heals and raises up. Blessed Virgin Mary by saying “Yes” to God had fulfilled the dream of God, who sent to the world His Love – Jesus. Holy Father visited the Juvenile Detention Center where he provided the young detainees with the feelings of being loved by the Father. Pope Frances also visited a Good Samaritan Home, a center dedicated to helping HIV and AIDS patients regardless of their sex, religion, sexual orientation, geographical origin and those who lack the resources to live and cope with their illnesses. I was very impressed with some thoughts of the Holy Father, like for instance, the call to the youth, where he said, “You are the Church,” He also urged them to follow the example of Blessed Virgin Mary who is powerful and still is in the life of Jesus and the Church. The teachings of the Holy Father in Panama corresponded with the teachings of our Archbishop Vigneron in His Pastoral Letter that gave the beginning to a new movement “Unleash the Gospel”. We as a parish, with our team leaders, must create a mission plan. What we want to become within the next 3 or more years. What things we must do? What things we do that we do not need to do? How we can be engaged to evangelize our culture. In your private discussions, do not focus on what is wrong. The media is doing this already. Let us talk about what must be done. I am inviting all parishioners to discuss it and particularly our young people. Traditionally, on February 3rd we bless the throats, so I will be doing this after the 8:30 & 11:00 a.m. Masses.
God Bless,
Fr Bogdan

The shared topic in today’s Scripture readings is one of prophets and prophecy. From his consecration in the womb, the prophet Jeremiah is summoned to prophecy to the nations. In the Gospel from the evangelist St. Luke, Jesus professes that the messianic prophecy from Isaiah is completed in Him; enraged. His hometown community rejects His message. St. Paul confirms to the Corinthian community that prophecy given as a gift is ineffective unless done with love. Are we, as Christian stewards, listening to Jesus as prophet through His teachings of Truth? Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, do we have the courage to defend, with love, the Church’s stance against abortion, euthanasia, same-sex unions, and other moral challenges by today’s secular culture? Reference the Catechism of the Catholic Church for insight into Catholic teaching.
Music Ministry
It’s not too late to get involved with Music Ministry at St. Faustina! Here is a look at when the choirs rehearse. Please come to our next rehearsal. If you are interested, or have questions, please call Matthew Zinser, our Music Director, at 646-369-8619, or send an email to [email protected].
ADULT CHOUR: Rehearsals on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the parish office conference room.
YOUTH CHOIR: Rehearsals on Mondays from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the parish office conference room.
HANDBELL CHOIR: Rehearsals on Mondays from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the church.
The Gift of Time
Too many of our older and disable neighbors are lonely and isolated. They long for just a brief visit now and then from someone who will take the time to sit and chat. And other families in our community are struggling to take care of a loved one at home. These full-time caregivers need a break. If you have a few hours, once or twice a month, to visit or just sit with an older or disabled adult, your gift of time will make a huge difference. No hands-on care or nursing experience is needed. For more information, call the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers at (586) 757-5551.
Stewardship Thoughts
Women’s Bible Study Update Our Women's Bible Study is going well! We have almost twenty participants, and more are welcome to join in. Our topics so far include 'Who is Jesus Christ?'; 'Why is Jesus Christ Interested in My Friendship?'; and 'Why and How Should I Pray?'. We meet on Tuesday evenings at 7 pm, enjoying snacks and good company as well as study of the riches of Scripture. If you are a woman interested in exploring your faith, feel free to drop in to see if this group is a good fit for you.
