President’s Remarks: Cr Robin Asmus
It will come as little surprise that, as we navigate this unprecedented global
event, the club has had to make changes to its plans for the year. The safety of
our community is of the utmost importance, as is our respectful compliance with
government regulations, and so for the foreseeable future we will be staying
home. In
reflection of this, you will notice that ours. General meetings Car Club runs and social gatherings
have been cancelled until July 2020. (Under the current 90 day self-isolation rule) We will
review the situation continually over the coming weeks and months to make decisions about
events from July and onwards.
The 2020 7th March Vintage Speedway event, the 28th March Wagga Speedway sedan race
meeting and the 9th May Vintage meeting have been cancelled. At this stage, we look to the next
3
scheduled Vintage Speedway meeting on Saturday 1st August with hope, but notably aware of the
possibility of its cancellation as well.
Although we have had to cancel these major events with significant organisational requirements
and long lead times, should the situation improve and governmental obligation and regulation
allow it, we may be able to look into smaller scale track days, car club runs or similar events that
could be organised on a shorter time frame. These will be discussed should the opportunity arise
down the track.
The Club’s sub Committee meetings continue with members liaising etc. by phone, and while we
may be confined to our homes we have plenty of work to do and our dedication to improving the
club and its service to the community is not diminished.
We understand the importance of community and friendship in times like these, and so we are
looking into opportunities to step up our communication and foster our community online. The
task has been given high priority and we would greatly appreciate any ideas or feedback. Please
get in touch and keep in touch.
We trust that you and your loved ones are all coping with the new normal that has been imposed
on us by COVID-19. It is early days and we hope that a sense of belonging to our Gasworks
Motorsport Club by way of online and phone communications will lift your spirits. It is a
privilege to serve this club and we hope that the current circumstances strengthen our sense of
belonging.
Stay home stay safe and healthy, look after your family and friends and please reach out to each
other, keep in touch and keep your connections, and each other, strong. We’ll
be in touch, and look forward to seeing you all in a post-COVID-19 world.
Meanwhile a HAPPY EASTER
Cr Robin Asmus, President. ………………
Editor’s Note: Kerry Phelan
I echo our president’s sentiment and in particular endorse his remarks about
using this “Self Isolation “period to continue the good work in strengthening our
Club and Sub Committee activities.
Our Car Club Registrars are working on a calendar of Monthly club runs from
August (Govt regulations permitting) thru to November with our AGM scheduled for
Saturday 5th December being the Club’s last official activity for the year.
The IMP Sub Committee similarly stands ready to operate the previously scheduled 1st
August Vintage Meeting /Speedway Kart meeting ( once again Govt regulations permitting )
The WSC Sub Committee, will advise any updates as to their next speedway meeting at IMP.
Our Student Mentoring program with Junee High School Year 10 Students is being
conducted at our tempory Gasworks Garage, on the corner of Siegnor & Anzac streets next to
the Crossing Motel and will likewise recommence when the regulatory bodies allow it to do
so.

In the last Newsletter we noted in our “business supporters and good people to deal with”
section that MPF Engineering had offered assistance in helping us develop our youth driver
training program. However despite our combined best intentions and efforts along with the
enthusiastic assistance from Glenn Sheehan at JSC, we were unable to get the necessary vital
financial support needed from State Government grants & other funding bodies.
Meanwhile MPF Engineering have generously redirected their support in supplying and
constructing the 15m x 12m” Environmental Shade Structure” at IMP. This scope of works
was supervised by Peter Nell on behalf of MPF Engineering (FYI Photos of the Shade
Structure were posted on our website & Facebook in January this year).

In other news, I often get questions regarding the use of our club vehicles on Conditional
Registration Scheme: FYI: here is an RMS News update on. Historic vehicles
Historic vehicles may be registered under the Conditional Registration Scheme. The
conditional registration of historic vehicles is referred to as the Historic Vehicle Scheme
(HVS). The HVS was developed in consultation with industry
About the log book
The log book condition allows vehicles operating under the Historic Vehicle Scheme and
Classic Vehicle Scheme to have up to 60 days of general use (i.e. maintenance and personal
use) each year, outside of club organised events. Each day of general use must be recorded in
a log book issued at a service centre.
Historic and Classic Vehicle Log Book
Transport for NSW recently conducted a review of the Log Book Trial operating under the
Historic and Classic Vehicle Schemes.
From 1 October 2019, the log book will become a permanent feature of the Historic and
Classic Vehicle Schemes. Transport for NSW will deliver a number of improvements to the
schemes over the next 12 months based on the feedback received during the review.
Existing requirements introduced during the trial will continue to apply to participants,
including:
Vehicles registered under the Historic and Classic Vehicle Schemes can be operated
for 60 days of general road use each year, outside of organised club events.
Each day of general road use must be recorded in a log book issued at Service NSW
branches.
Owners wishing to use a log book should be a member of a Transport for NSW (formally
Roads and Maritime Services) recognised classic or historic vehicle club, or Approved
Organisation participating in the log book condition..
I hope this helps and if further clarification is required I am happy to address this at a future
Club General Meetings.

Report IMP Sub Committee (Kerry Phelan, Phil Taber, Joe Belling Joe Farrell Bruce
Macleod, Trevor Allen, Peter Nell, Peter Harris. Keith Turner, Terry Clarke & Jeff Windsor
catering manager).
Firstly, a “get well soon “ call out to our resident Grid Marshal & Head Scrutineer Trevor
Allen who had a quadruple heart bi-pass operation last month at St Vincent’s Hospital in
Sydney . We are pleased to report he is doing well and back at work “albeit” on Light duties
Here is an update from Speedway Australia our governing body who both approve
and issue licenses and permits for our meetings, regarding their new “National
Training Program for Official’s (NTPO) accreditation. We are proud to launch our
comprehensive National Training Program for Official’s accreditation. For the past year we
have been developing an online platform for Officials training in conjunction with Divisional
bodies such as Speedway Sedans Australia and the Sprint car Control Council, to set a
national standard of knowledge and skill sets required for Stewards and Scrutineers across
every class of racing. . This new, interactive online programme covers all aspects of
Speedway Officiating, from the fundamentals of being an official, to health and safety,
Speedway racing rules and on-track scenarios. Further learning is provided with the help of
Sports Australia, covering topics such as ethical decision making, communication skills and
managing conflict.
The program allows for self-paced learning on your PC, mobile or tablet from the comfort of
your own home – avoiding the need for time consuming and costly travel from remote
areas, saving time and money for Divisional bodies, and the volunteers themselves.
Best of all – it’s free!
To access the online training click the “Training” button on
www.speedwayaustralia.org
For our future Speedway meetings it will be required of us to have accredited officials
undertake the mandatory key official’s roles.
Our Club Members to date with Speedway Australia NTPO accreditation are:
Terry Clarke SA Class 1 Chief Steward ( also the Manager/Chief Steward for Nowra
Speedway )
Kerry Phelan.SA Steward Officials Course (Completed)
Joe Belling SA Steward Officials Course/ Clerk of Course (Pending).
Trevor Allen SA Stewards Official Course /Scrutineer (Pending)
Then , on “ Track Matters” the Illabo committee has been doing repairs to the
pushcars and putting
new Push/Bumpers
onto the AU Falcon,
kindy donated by Tim
Blodineau ( Thanks Tim,
Much appreciated ).And
a new push bar on the
Camry.
The erection of the New
Shade Pavilion has been
completed, Thanks to MPF Engineering for the supply of materials, Tim Lloyd
constructions, GEO Community services, Peter Nell Supervisor & GWM Volunteers.
Next Meeting: 1st August (Pending) TBC

Gasworks Speedway Karts:
With Gary Rapmund & Adam Brandon.
Report : Given the current compulsory shut down
of all sporting events etc. ….we are however ,
looking to when this is lifted and to run an Invitation Practise day between
when the bans are lifted ( hopefully by the end of June or early July ) . If
this is possible we will do it before the next scheduled Kart meeting on the 1st August.
Next Speedway Kart Meeting Saturday 1st August 2019 TBC
GWM Bikes & Sidecars
With Phil Taber & Keith Turner
After getting 6 GWM Inc. members through the 3
Seminars held at Junee on 17th & 18th February for the
positions of Race Secretary, Clerk of Course, & Scrutineer, & getting Keith Turner signed off [1of 2
signatures required] as a Race Secretary at Young m/x on 15th March, the world went pear shaped &
all events to 31/05/20 cancelled by MNSW. At this same Young m/x Trevor got signed off as
Scrutineer, & Joe Belling, Joe Farrell, Kerry & myself got signed off as Clerk of Course.
Unfortunately the 2nd Young m/x scheduled for 22nd March was cancelled so a second signature
required to get to Level 1 standard was not available.
Round 1 of the RIC DT Series at Condobolin on 07/03/20 was cancelled due to "too much rain",
requiring a boat not a bike to compete. They were considering re-scheduling this round to 26/04/20,
but as MNSW stepped in this is "off" Round 2 of the RIC DT Series was scheduled for Temora in
May, but they pulled out of the series!!! Round 3 of the series is scheduled for Illabo on 13/06/20,
but as we are not able to get the 3 required officials, Race Secretary, Clerk of Course, & Scrutineer,
qualified to Level 1, [we would have to attend 1 more meeting in the 1st 10 days of June to achieve
this] & as we also have to rely on a Level 2 Steward from another RIC Club, it is unlikely that we will
be in a position to hold this Round 3. Also with no previous Rounds being held it is questionable that
we would get enough entrants to make the event viable? Round 4 on 12/09/20 at Wagga, & Round 5
on 13/09/20 at Illabo are at this stage questionable? As Wagga would need to get their currently
"unlicensed track" approved by 30/06/20 to be able to run their Round. NOT LOOKING GOOD!!!!
& we will not get an update till MNSW advises we are up & running again, & the RIC meeting
cancelled for Wed.08/04/20 is re-scheduled to ascertain if the RIC DT Series is viable with only 2
Rounds? Hill Taber & Keith Turner, GWM Inc. MCC Next meeting: TBA
GWM-WSC Speedway Sedans
Report: with Jason Boardman.
It was disappointing that we had to cancel our first
scheduled Speedway Sedan race meeting on
Saturday 28th March .Our GWM/WSC Sub Committee had put in a lot of
preparatory work in both the event administration and venue set up for what was
to be our first meeting. However as soon as the current Covid-19 bans are lifted we will
advise new dates for our next meetings. Also Our President Steve Cheney has been active in
8
encouraging divisional drivers from SSA (Speedway Sedans Australia) and RSA (Racing
Sedans Australia), groups to support our future race meetings. Next meeting: TBA
