100th Birthday of Pope St. John Paul, The Great
Please notice, in our sanctuary, a display of Pope St. John Paul, the Great. On May 18, 2020 we would have celebrated his 100th birthday. Canon-ized in 2014 with Pope St. John XXIII, John Paul was greatly loved and admired not only by Roman Catholics, but by the entire world! To this day, when asking a seminarian who influenced you to study to be a priest, 90% will say, Pope St. John Paul II. The collage are holy pictures of John Paul, II from Italy. If you look closely you will see the little holy cards written in Italian. I received them some years ago and had a framer make the collage. Below, to your left is the Pope’s Coat of Arms. It says: “Totus Tuus” or “All Yours” in reference to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a matter of fact the “M” be-low the right hand corner of the cross stands for “Mary”. No other Pope in history has included the Blessed Virgin Mary in his coat of arms. The Latin phrase: “Totus Tuus” is from a longer phrase by St. Marie Louis Grignon de Montfort (1673-1716) and is rendered: “Ergo sum, Totus Tu-us”…”Therefore, I am, all yours”. This display will grace the Church until the end of May. Please enjoy it visually and spiritually.
St. Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-1591) On June 21, 2020 we celebrate the Feast day of St. Aloysius Gonzaga. As usual, his image will be placed in the sanctuary for the month of June for your spiritual veneration. Personally, I pray and ask him to pray for an end to this pandemic, since he died while administering to the sick during the plague toward the end of the 16th century. Unfortunately, because of Covid19 we will not be having a celebration in the church hall this year. Pray, Pray, Pray and become close to God, the Blessed Mother and the Saints.
Did you ever wonder what Covid19 means: CO stands for corona which means Crown. Corona is crown in Spanish and Italian. In Latin it is very close: Coronam
VI stands for virus
D stands for disease
19 stands for the year it hit with a venge-ance 2019.
May 24, 2020 Seventh Sunday of Easter
Please Pray For The Repose of the Soul of Joseph Panella
Some time ago, Archbishop Blair, encouraged the priests of the Archdiocese of Hartford to culti-vate, among the faithful, a devotion to St. Michael, the Archangel. In fact, the St. Michael prayer was returned again after all Masses. Recall that when the Mass was only in Latin (1570-1969) after the High Mass, known in those days as the Summa (Latin for: The Greatest) this prayer was recited. This St. Michael prayer was placed at the end of the Mass by Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) in the 1890’s as a result of a vision he saw concerning the 20th century. The Church has always prayed to St. Michael for protection against the evils of the devil. Michaels name means “Who is like God.” In Latin: “Quis ut Deus” He can be found in the Book of The Prophet Daniel (Old Testament) Dn. 10:13; Dn. 10:21; Dn 12:1. In the New Testament he can be found in the Book of Revelation 12:7-9; Epistle of St. Jude 1:9; and the Letter of St. Paul to Thessaloni-ans (4:16); St. Thomas Aquinas (1214-1274) writes of him: “Michael is the breath of the Redeemer’s spirit, who at the end of the World will combat and destroy the antichrist, as he did Lucifer in the begin-ning.” St. Michael is invoked in sickness and most especially at the hour of our death, when Satan makes his last and fiercest attack on our soul, seeking with cunning, craft, fears and despair to drag us into Hell with him. As your pastor, I, like our Archbishop Blair en-courage you to become devoted to St. Michael, The Archangel. I encourage all to fervently pray the St. Michael prayer several times during the day as eve-ry Christian should be sure to have St. Michael’s help in life and at death. In time, the second confessional (not in use) op-posite the little shrine of St. Aloysius, placed in by my predecessor, Fr. Dillon, will be reorganized to accommodate a lovely statue of St. Michael. I am very grateful to St. Aloysius Men’s Club who recently purchased the statue of St. Michael, which now graces the Church sanctuary (near the vigil candles) TEMPORARILY, until the old confessional is made into a small shrine cove like that of St. Alo-ysius. Thank you, St. Aloysius Men’s Club. In his letter to us, Archbishop Blair asked his priests not only to cultivate a devotion to St. Mi-chael, among the priests and faithful, but to place in the Church, in a prominent setting, a picture or a statue of the great warrior Archangel against the wiles (pronounced: will-ees) of the devil. The Church is open every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 noon to 6 p.m. You
are invited to come and pray at anytime during those hours. Below, please find the St. Michael prayer and several other ways of honoring St. Michael. In time I will supply for all of you the Chaplet in honor of St. Michael. Very Sincerely, Fr. Ron
St. Michael, Pray for us and protect us.
Prayer to St. Michael Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
How to Honor St. Michael
By frequently repeating this short prayer: “O Glori-ous St. Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Court, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.”
By invoking his aid in time of sickness.
By praying fervently to St. Michael if we find it hard to conquer a temptation or to correct some fault. He will assuredly help us to overcome the most
violent, the most inveterate temptations.
By having a little picture of St. Michael in our prayer
books, saying each time we see it: “O Glorious St. Michael, I love you! O Glorious St. Mi-chael, help me!”
By praying in honor of St. Michael to defend the world against the devil and save us from the aw-ful evils that threaten us. Let us occasionally offer our Mass, Communion and Rosary in hon-or of St. Michael.
In Observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2020 the office will be closed. The Of-
fice will re-open Tuesday, May 26, 2020.
