e keep you confident even in the face of a disaster. Disaster Recovery at Development Heroes is about

more than replicating and backing up your data. The human process, training, and governance that encapsulates our procedures ensures your business is able to continue performing in the event of a disaster or significant crisis. This paper covers the standard procedures we put in place for Disaster Recovery, and additional scenarios as well as optional services available to meet your business objectives and continuity plans.

after a disruption in which Development Heroes will restore a business process to its service level. This can be customized to meet your needs and will be outlined in our operational level agreement. RPO or Recovery Point Objective is the amount of acceptable data loss measured in time. For example, if a system or series of system failures happen at 10am, an RPO of one hour should cover a loss of data between 10am and 11 am, with recovery points available for all data before 10am.

Disaster RecoveryBecause Development Heroes leverages Amazon Web Services to host your environments, it also makes sense for us to use AWS to meet your Disaster Recovery (DR) needs. Each and every aspect of your continuity plan can be customized to meet your needs, but we have several pre-packaged options that we deploy most commonly for our customers. We can also work with you to create a custom package, including utilizing your own investments and systems to integrate into a complete, holistic solution for your business continuity needs.

Bronze Offering (Included with Backup & Restore Hosting Package )

RTO: 48 hours / RPO: 24 hours

Because Adobe Experience Manager is highly dependent on localized data storage, a backup and restore recovery plan works extremely well for the majority of our clients. Data is copied outside of the core server instance, allowing a clean separation of data and compute capacity. A pre-bundled and configured Adobe Experience Manager instance will be rolled out and reconfigured with your existing data storage or snapshot. Availability zones that are outside of your primary zone are available for usage in scenarios where the entire availability zone is down.

Pre-requisites

For our Bronze Disaster Recovery plan, we require customers to be hosting Adobe Experience Manager with a dual publisher and dispatcher plan. We also require a minimum 10-hour retainer (included with AEM dual publisher hosting plans) per month to support these managed services. Overages are billed at our standard hourly rate.

Data & Storage

Our bronze package offering ensures your data is snapshotted using elastic block storage on all of your production environments. Snapshots themselves are stored within Amazon S3, which redundantly stores data across multiple servers in an availability zone. Snapshots are taken daily and can be restored independent of any environment or physical device.

Servers & OS

Pre-configured, custom AMI’s (Amazon Machine Images) ensure instances can be re-deployed on demand with minimal configuration necessary. With elastic storage capabilities in S3, reattaching your data storage is seamless and straightforward.

Networking

Traffic to your site will require rerouting during a failover scenario. Elastic Load Balancers are a part of every hosting engagement and allow this to happen automatically as part of our configuration to your redundant servers. Programmatic remapping of the load balancer to point to servers in other availability zones outside of the affected regions ensures your site(s) stay up and running no matter where the issue resides. While most of our customers manage their own DNS, we do have DNS services, which can provide highly scalable and redundant DNS web services.

Need a direct connection with your Disaster Recovery plan? We can provision that for you and set a dedicated network connection for you connecting your virtual private cloud with your on-premises network and systems. Additional cost may apply.

Silver Offering (Warm Standby) RTO: 5 hours / RPO: 1 hour

For our customers that require more stringent disaster recovery plan features, our offering includes upgraded storage options, and a minimal version AEM environment running continually in the cloud. Data is replicated to the warm standby environment, ready to route traffic quickly and efficiently should your main instance(s) go down. Because the warm standby environment is available, recovery times are much quicker. While warm standby production environments are not accessible to public traffic, they can be accessed, tested, and used for non-production work. The warm standby is not expected to take the same production load, but can be scaled up during a DR scenario.

Pre-requisites

Our silver package requires usage of an additional server stack setup for Dispatcher, Publisher, and Authoring instances. An additional 10-hour retainer is required on top of the initial 10 hours included with our main hosting package for more complex servicing and maintenance. Hours over the 20-hour total retainer are billed at our standard hourly rate.

Data & Storage

Includes all of the features of the Bronze plan, however snapshots are taken on an hourly basis. A third-tier long-term storage is used to guard against data corruption and increase durability. Third-tier storage is not meant to be used for immediate recovery; it is there to guard against scenarios where S3 data is not usable or available. Additional snapshot configurations are configured and made available for the warm environment stack. Virtual Tape Storage and Shelving is available at additional cost, and can be used to effectively store third party application data outside of Adobe Experience Manager.

Server & OS

Warm environment is a scaled-down version of your production environment. In order to meet the full production demand, auto scaling will scale up the environment as demand peaks once the environment is made live. Additional warm environments in alternate availability regions including outside of the United States is optionally available as well.

Networking

Automated load balancing configuration to your warm environment will reroute traffic when the main environments are down or fail. DNS will require updating to the new environment once up and running long-term. If Development Heroes DNS services are in use, this will be provided for you.

Gold (Hot Server Cross Regional) RTO: 2 hours / RPO: 30 minutes

Our Gold offering provides all of the features denoted

in our Silver Disaster Recovery plan, with additional managed services time for your recovery team planning and organization including continuity planning with your internal teams. Our warm server becomes a hot server, meaning it will receive production load and be located in a separate geographic region from your main production instances. Monthly DR testing can be provided at your discretion based upon your requirements, annual testing is standard. This option is mostly fixed cost as a dedicated engineer is already accounted for.

Pre-requisites

A fully dedicated infrastructure engineer retainer is required, but fully dedicates a resource to manage your infrastructure every month. A duplicate full stack production environment including all network and storage will be created in any availability region of your choice.

Data & Storage

Data and storage options are the same as the Silver plan,

Page 11: Essential Services for Disaster Recovery - Disaster Recovery Scenarios for Adobe Experience Manager and Amazon Web Services

Essential Services for Disaster Recovery 11(646) 844-4784

however additional snapshots and recovery options are provisioned for the entire hot server stack. Virtual tapes are available optionally.

Servers & OS

A full stack duplicate production environment will be created in an availability region of your choice. Adobe Experience Manager will be clustered in configuration with these regionally separate environments. Replication will occur through a clustered configuration of AEM providing a performance benefit outside of disaster recovery services.

Networking

A fully redundant networking architecture is put in place, included during configuration of the clustered environments. Because the regionally separate environments are already routing production load to the system, all that is needed is to shut down the affected region until it can be brought back online.
