"To Whom shall I tell my grief?"

("Iona Potapov, the sledge-driver, is all white like a ghost. He sits on the box without stirring, bent as double as the living body can be bent ")This quote is taken from the story of the story “To Whom shall I tell my grief?” by Anton Chekhov. In this excerpt can be seen that Iona as the main character looks very sad that shut him up in his grief. Iona in the story as the main character is a lonely and indifference of the people in this story are very visible in every paragraph.

In this story we see that Iona felt very lonely. In the fourth paragraph as an employer of a passenger in his sledge, he began to tell his grief of losing her son a week ago. "Turn around you devil" is exactly what words come out of the mouth of the employer, there is no impression that it cares about employees Iona sadness.

The next paragraph tells the incident when three young men pay only 20kopeck, even though he remained substandard him. This accident can be seen from this paragraph (Iona tugs at the reins and clicks to his horse. Twenty kopecks is not a fair price, but he has no thoughts for that) .Iona trying to get sympathy again and told his son's death this moment can be seen from this quote ("This week... er. . . my. . . er. . . son died!"), but the same as the officers, the three young men did not care about that. He kept telling his son's death even as he got to his lodgings, he told it to his friend. But again, no words of sympathy that he got.

We can see that Iona always tell his story to his mare ,that can be seen from this paragraph,("Are you munching?" Iona asks his mare, se eing her shining eyes. "There, munch away, munch away.... Since we have not earned enough for oats, we will eat hay.... Yes,... I have grown too old to drive…). Poor Iona all people who had he met didn’t care about him.

Iona is a man who loved his children and his mare. He continued to work so he can support himself, his mare, and his daughter who still alive. But as a man he was so weak, he wanted someone to accompany him, hear his laments, but apparently no one wants to hear it except his mare.

By reading the story "To Whom shall I tell my grief?" by Anton Chekhov we came to know that in the West people caring for one's own problems is lacking, telling a personal matter is something strange. And the views of several paragraphs we can conclude that Iona is someone who feels very lonely and trying to attract the sympathy of passengers and no one cares about his grief.
