    SPECIAL CORD SETINSTRUCTIONS1.A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from becoming

    entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.

    2. An extension cord may be purchased and usedIfcare is exercised in its use.

    3. Ifan extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord mustbe at least 10 amps and 120 volts. The resulting extended cord must be arranged sothat it will not drape over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on bychildren or tripped over accidentally.

    Note:This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is larger than the other). As asafety feature, thisplug will fitIn a polarized outlet only one way. If the plugdoes not fully fitin the outlet, reverse the plug. If It stilldoes not fit,contact a

    qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat thissafety feature.

    CAUTION:

    1. Do not remove the filterholder at any tlme durlng the brewing process.

    2. Do not let the pump run withan empty water container. This can damagethe pump permanently.

    3. Use caution when removing thefilter holder from the brew head. Themetal parts may stillbe very hot. Also, there may be hot water floating onthe top of the filter basket.

    4. WHEN USING OR CLEANING THE FROTHING NOZZLE: Place a frothingpitcheror large cup (wllh a 16 ounce capacity) half full of water or milkunder the frothing nozzle. Make sure the tipof the frothing tube issubmerged In liquid before turning on the steam control knob.

    INTRODUCTIONCongratulalionsl You are the owner of a Mr.Coffee model ECMP3 pump espresso/cappuccino maker. This unique appliance has been designed to provide you withdelicious restaurant quality espresso/cappuccino quickly and conveniently.

    Espresso is a unique method of coffee brewing in which hot water isforced throughfinely ground coffee. Popular in Europe, itis a far richer and more full-bodied brew thanregular American coffee. Because of its richness, espresso is usually served In l-112 to2 oz. portions, in demilasse cups.

    Mostespresso drinkers outside of Europe prefer cappuccino, a drink made of about

    one third espresso, one third hot milk, and one third foam.Preparing espresso or cappuccino is very different from brewing regular drip coffee.To ensure your safelyand thelong lifeofthis appliance, please read all inslruclions,cautions, notes, and attentions.

    H ELPFUL HINT:Inside theEspresso machine water is heated up. This water willexpand and as

    a result some drops may leak from thefrothing nozzle and/or thewaler outlet opening.This is quite normal. Do not forget to move the frothing nozzle backwards into a positionover thegrid if you do notwish to use it.

    The Espresso machine is protected against damage due to overheating. If the pumpoperates fortoo long itwill automatically turnoff. If thishappens, switchthe appliancecompletely offand letitcool down forapproximately 45 minutes. Then remove air. Afterthis you can use theEspresso machine again.

    For 1 cup, place 1 level measuringspoonful 0fcoffeelntothe1 cupfiller. For 2 cups, place 2 levelmeasuring spoonfuls into the2 cups filter (Figure 7).

    Press thecoffee down withthebase of themeasuring spoon

    (Figure 8).If necesssary, clean tracesofcoffeeofftheedge of thefilter.

    Position the filterholder (Figure 9)and screw in (Figure 10).

    Place 1 or 2 demitasse cup(s)under thespouts of thefilter holder(Figure 11).

    The Coffeebutton(R) can be

    pressed as soon as pilotlightTemperature goes out(Figure12). Hot water will then be pumpedthrough theground coffee and aftera few seconds theEspresso coffeewill start flowingintothecup(s)(Figure 13).

    Press theCoffee button(again as soon as there is enoughEspresso in thecup(s) (Figure14).

    CCappuccino is theItalianname forEspresso with a Iittle milk and alayer of frothed milk. The froth ismade by frothing cold milk in a

    pitcher or other container using thefrothing nozzle. The froth, togetherwith a little milk, is added to theEspresso.

    *First prepare thefrothed milk,then the Espresso.

    *Use the wider specialCappuccino cups for the samequantity of coffee.

    To prepare frothed milk, first switchthe appliance on by pressingOn/Off"button ( ) (Figure 15).

    You can swing thefrothing nozzleto bring it into the most suitableposition (Figure 18).

    Keep the pitcher under thefrothingnozzle. Please note: the tipof thefrothingnozzle should remainunder the milklevel (Figure 19).

    Open the steam control by turningcounter-clockwise (Figure 20).Steam will come out of thefrothingnozzle, making the milk bubble(Figure 21).

    CLEANING

    Wash thefilters, the filter holder,thewater tank, the drip-basin andgrid regularly.

    Regularly clean the brew head,removing any stuck grainsof coffee.

    Cleanthefrothingnozzle,particularly afterfrothing milk, witha damp clolh. If necessary, thefrothing nozzle can be unscrewedin a counter-clockwise directionusing theend of the measuringspoon and then it can be cleaned

    (Figures 29 and 30). The nozzlemust be screwed on again in aclockwise direction. Tighten usingreasonable force with theend ofthemeasuring spoon provided.

    The exterior of theunitmay becleaned with a damp cloth.

    Delimeyour Espresso machine regularly. Withnormal household use the following ruleapplies:

    *Ifyouuse soft waterdelime two or three times

    a year.

    *Ifyou use hard water delime four or fivetimesa year.

    Your water supply company can inform you aboutthe hardness of your water.

    Operate the appliance twice as indicated insectionEspresso. However, fill water tank l/2fullwith vinegar and 1/2with water and do not fillthefilterwithground coffee.

    To remove any scale thathas set in the inside ofthe frothing nozzle, let theappliance producevinegar steam for some time.

    When deliming is complete remove all traces ofvinegar and scale, by operating the appliancetwice with fresh cold water in the same manner.Then clean all removable items.

    TROUBLESHOOTINGIf your Espresso machine does not operate as expected you may, in mostcases, find the cause and solution below. Also refer to the correspondingsections In your instructions for usel

    The pump is too noisy.

    *There is no water in thetank.Refill with water.

    The crema crest on the

    *The machine was not heated-upsufficiently. (Had the pilot lightgone out)

    The crema is too dark and/orthe coffee has a burnt taste.

    *The machine was too hot.(Was the steam button still inon [down] position)

    *Thecoffee has been groundtoo finely.

    *The coffee has been tampeddown too much.

    The pump does not workanymore.

    *The pump has been switched offautomatically to prevent damagedue to overheating. Switch themachine off and let it cool downfor approximately 45 minutes. Fillthe water tank and remove air.After this you can use themachine again.
