Electric SubmersiblePumping Systems
Electric submersible pumping systems are an integral part of Weatherford's artificial-lift
portfolio. Today we offer a complete solution—not simply parts and components—to
enhance production over the life of a well or field and improve our clients' system run-lives
and overall profitability.

Electric Submersible Pumping Systems
We take full responsibility for the entire job—well designconcept throughcommissioning.
Our experienced personnelunderstand that there's more toproviding a finely tuned ESPcompletion than just excellenthardware. Weatherford's ESPteam uses its experience indesign, engineering, installationand optimization to provide a full-
time ESP support structure andensure our clients maximumreturns on their investments.
The durability and service life of a Weatherford ESP system reliesheavily on the quality of eachsystem component. From robust, dependable downhole motors toan extensive range of intakes,
gas separators and multistagecentrifugal pumps and surfacecomponents, our ESP systemscan be customized andassembled for a variety of applications for long-termefficiency and extended servicelife.
In addition, our sensing andmonitoring systems allow for wellproduction control with completemonitoring capabilities in
conjunction with any existingcommunication system.
Our global infrastructure speaksfor itself, with highly professionalspecialists in all the major oil-producing regions of the world. We also operate technologicallyadvanced ESP manufacturing, assembly and service facilities in
Shanghai, China; Alexandria,Egypt; and Nisku, Canada.
All of these facilities areISO 9001:2000 certified.
So, whether the situation callsfor a specific product or acomplete well analysis andsystem design, Weatherford hasthe right solution for all your needs.

The principal components of Weatherford's multistagecentrifugal pumps are nickel-alloyed iron stages, whichconsist of rotating impellers andstationary diffusers. Dependingon desired rates andperformance, this corrosion-resistant stage construction canbe either floater or compression.Compression-style pumps can
cover a wider range of flowrates. They can absorb greater downthrust by transferring theforces downward through thepump to the motor seal thrustbearing, as opposed to floater construction, where the thrust isabsorbed by the pump stagesthemselves.
The stage geometry for all of Weatherford's pumps is either radial flow or mixed flow.
Typically, the radial-flow type ismore efficient at flow rates lower than 2,500 BPD. Mixed-flowstages are more efficient athigher flow rates and also offer improved gas handlingcharacteristics. Selecting thecorrect number of stagesprovides the required lift or headfor the application, and the sizeof each stage determines thevolume of fluid through thepump. Weatherford specifies arecommended operating range(ROR) for all pumps. It isimportant to operate the pumpwithin this range to ensureoptimal efficiency and tomaximize run-life.
The stages are mounted onto anickel-copper super-alloy shaft, which has high inherent yieldstrength. As with all our ESPcomponents, we will only specifyequipment specifically designedto handle the well conditions. For example, if the pumphorsepower requirements arehigher than normal, we willspecify a higher-strength shaft
material.
The main housing material is alow-carbon steel. The head andbase are made from medium-carbon steel and also houseabrasion-resistant tungstencarbide bearings to preventradial wear and vibration at thetwo most susceptible points inthe pump. In corrosiveapplications stainless steelhousings can be provided; or, in
some applications, “flame-spraying” the carbon steel®
housings with a MONEL coatingis preferred.
For abrasive (sandy)conditions, abrasion-resistantceramic (tungsten carbide)can be used throughout thepump to maintain radialstability.
Higher-strength shafts areavailable for cases in which
the number of stages andload on the shaft could causethe shaft to deform or evenbreak under normal operatingconditions.
All Weatherford pumps are builtto ISO 9001:2000 standard andare tested to API-RP-11S2.
