ESOS is a new piece of UK legislation, based upon an EU Directive which requires member states to introduce a mandatory programme of energy audits and reporting of compliance to maximise energy saving opportunities. Take Immediate Action No matter which of the potential routes to compliance are followed, this ESOS obligation is carved in stone. Large companies need to take urgent action to gather relevant data, conduct the audit within designated timescales, and report compliance by 5th December 2015. Ongoing Audits Thereafter audits demonstrating compliance are ongoing with compliance being reported to the regulator every four years. These audits must be signed off by a Qualified Lead Assessor and a main board director or highest level manager if there is no board in the UK. ESOS is a new piece of UK legislation, based upon an EU Directive which requires member states to introduce a mandatory programme of energy audits and reporting of compliance to maximise energy saving opportunities.

Take Immediate ActionNo matter which of the potential routes to

compliance are followed, this ESOS obligation

is carved in stone. Large companies need to take

urgent action to gather relevant data, conduct the

audit within designated timescales, and report

compliance by 5th December 2015.

Ongoing AuditsThereafter audits demonstrating compliance are

ongoing with compliance being reported to the

regulator every four years. These audits must be

signed off by a Qualified Lead Assessor and a

main board director or highest level manager if

there is no board in the UK.

Large EnterprisesThe current target sector is ‘large enterprises’, a

definition which has a number of variables.

250 employees (that definition includes directors,

part time employees and some who normally

work out of the UK) OR a turnover of 50m euros

AND a balance sheet worth of 43m euros.

Experience of other schemes launched to large

companies tends to lead us to believe the

qualification requirements are bound to move

downward to SMEs in due course to ensure

maximum energy efficiency for UK plc.

Auditel Qualified AssessorFollowing the announcement by the Government

in late October 2014 of the requirements for

registration as a Qualified Lead Assessor, Auditel

is pleased to announce that it has a panel of

highly experienced consultants going through

registration now so we can continue to offer a

comprehensive energy service.

Deadline for Data CollectionThe preparation for audits, including collection

and collation of the data, can be carried out by

any of our UK consultants. It is important to get

this under way soon because the data collection

12 month period must straddle the Qualification

Date of 31st December 2014.

Auditel’s Solution

Auditel will conduct a no obligation interview with you to establish whether your company is ‘large’ as defined in the legislation, and suggest how we can support you in this critical area of compliance.

If you are an existing energy client of Auditel much of the data will have been collected and collated throughout the period of our relationship. Your consultant will also have an initial desk based overview of the need for on-site energy audits, know where more work is required in order to meet the compliance criteria and which sites or processes can be bundled together to minimise the onsite investigations.

If your company is identified as below the current definition threshold, we will still be able to support your own efforts towards maximising energy efficiency – the benefits go straight on your bottom line and support your company’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy.
