What is ESOL?• Program for students whose home
language is not English• Program to teach reading, writing,
listening, and speaking in English• Teach AKS to maximum extent possible
while language is developing• Pull out• Small group• Flexible planning

S- Specific content and spelling vocabulary taught to all grades O– Objectives and goals made simpler to learn the ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS. L- Language build literacy In listening speaking, reading and writing
How Are Students Qualified?
• WAPT in fall of K (Listening and Speaking)
• ACCESS in Spring for K and 1-5
Modifications
• Classroom changes to make learning easier (visuals, small group, repeating directions)
• Modification of AKS (smaller steps to same goal)
Help at Home
• Read daily in your native language and English if you can
• Have your child read to you• Ask questions during and after reading• Ask your child to point out words, pictures, etc.• If you can not read to your child, tell stories and
have them repeat them and draw each part of the story on a different page then let them write the story based on the picture
• Make homework a priority every day
Be an Encourager!
• Praise them• Challenge them• Quiz them• Share with them• Brag about them• Make them talk about their school life.
