PROGRAMS FOR 2019-20
BREAD Society was established 30 years ago in August 1989. For two decades, it was
engaged in awarding scholarships of financial assistance for higher educaon to
meritorious underprivileged students, especially from rural areas.
2009 - 10 to 2018 - 19
During the third decade it has established 1,159 Children's Libraries in govt. high
schools mostly in rural areas to inculcate reading habit among students. It has also
felicitated headmasters and teachers responsible for NMMS awards, replenished
books to exisng libraries and awarded prizes to students for best write-ups. Donaon
for establishing a BREAD Children's Library has been increased to Rs. 40,000 in 2018-19
to create sufficient Corpus to meet the recurring expenditure on replenishing 40 books
to all exisng BREAD libraries every year.
2019-20
BREAD Society will connue to select schools in an objecve manner for seng up
Children's Libraries in govt. high schools. Donors have the first choice to select govt.
high schools or local libraries to set up BREAD Children's Libraries. If the choice is le to
BREAD Society, it selects high schools that secure 4 or more Naonal Means cum Merit
Scholarships (NMMS) in a year or 2 or more NMMS in an Upper Primary school. It will
also select on a pilot basis Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas securing 10 GPA in SSC as
students of these schools are not eligible to appear for NMMS Test.
BREAD Society proposes to set up 135 new libraries, 65 in Telangana and 70 in Andhra
Pradesh in 2019-20. It will also replenish over 1,100 Libraries established up to 2018-19
with 40 new books during 2019-20. Besides, it will felicitate headmasters and teachers
of NMMS library schools set up during the year as a token of appreciaon for the
dedicated and selfless service rendered by them. It will also award prizes to students for
best write-ups of book reviews done in 2018-19.

13. Finances:
We have received Rs. 9. 09 lakh as Interest and Rs.0.89 lakh as refund of Income Tax
during the year. We have spent about Rs.37.57 lakh during the year, Rs.37.34 lakh
on programs and Rs.0.23 lakh as administrave expenditure. Our investment in 8%

for Rs. 46.16 lakh. We have received donaons of Rs. 18.73 lakh in the last week of
March 2019 which had to be carried forward.
14. Disseminaon of informaon to Donors:
We have furnished informaon about ulizaon of donaons to all sponsors and
donors giving them an up to date account of their respecve donaons and
ulizaons over the years.
15. Database:
It has been possible to handle the volume and variety of work with support system
created through the robust and versale database. We are able to generate all
possible informaon concerning all our stakeholders be it library schools, donors,
accounts etc. Our database created, modified from me to me and managed by
Mr. Vidyasagar, our Member has been singularly responsible for the efficiency and
efficacy of our delivery system. He has redesigned the Database to provide
informaon to donors replenishing books to exisng libraries with parculars of
schools where their donaons have been used. Another important feature is the
inclusion of names and contact numbers of headmasters and library teachers in
account statements furnished to donors. Thus, we have achieved total
transparency in all facets of our program by enabling donors to contact beneficiary
9
schools directly. Any donor can contact the HM or library teacher and find out
about its usage. That will go a long way in HM and library teacher paying more
aenon. Even if our Members speak to HMs and library teachers it will help
improve the situaon, parcularly in the light of the instrucons given by
Commissioner, School Educaon, Andhra Pradesh.
16. Paperless Office:
In fact, we are virtually running a paperless office, except for bills and vouchers for
Audit purpose. We use the office primarily to hold Meengs. Work is done by
volunteers from their own places. Secretary has been living in Bangalore for the
past 9 years. Orders for books are placed with publishers either by Project Director
(BREAD Libraries) from Vijayawada or by the Secretary from Bangalore. Books are
received in Kakinada, sets are prepared, packed and dispatched to selected library
schools from there. Bookcases are dispatched from Hyderabad. All bills are paid by
creding vendors' bank accounts.
17. Publicaons:
BREAD Society has come out with its first quarterly electronic Newsleer in July
2006 and is bringing it out regularly in the first fortnight of every quarter. We have
completed 13 years of publishing quarterly Newsleer. BREAD REVIEW 2017-18, a
new leaflet of the Society and a Telugu book “Kothabadilo Naveen” are the new
publicaons. We have circulated the BREAD Review to all concerned. “Kothabadilo
Naveen” has been given as a prize to students for best write-ups.
18. Website:
M/S Foxfire Technologies (India) Ltd., Hyderabad is redesigning our website. They
have updated it to WordPress. They are also hosng the website free of cost very
efficiently. We are able to access the website all the me.
10
