    to help young people

    successfully learn, stay

    in school, and prepare

    for life.

    We believe that every

child needs and deservesthe Five Basics:

    1. A one-on-one

    relationship with a

    caring adult

    2. A safe place to learn

    and grow

    3. A healthy start and

    healthy future

    4. A marketable skill to

    use upon graduation

    5. A chance to give

    back to peers and

    community.

    CIS school-based

programs are designed toprovide students with at

    least one of these REAL

    basics.

As EastSide Charter School celebrates its 15

    ING & CIS-DE say

ThankYouING Bank and CIS of Delaware collaborated to recognize teachers

throughout the state of Delaware at all CIS school sites. Teachers wereprovided gift bags filled with classroom supplies, along with thank

you letters from ING bank executives and CIS of Delaware President,Jim Purcell. The effort was truly a unique collaboration which

included ING bank employee volunteers and CIS staff members

collectively working together to stuff bags and then distribute them

throughout the state of Delaware. On August 17th

, 2012 CIS staff handdelivered bags to every EastSide Charter School teacher and staff

member. Our teachers work tirelessly every day and this is just a little

    way we say thank you!

Coasting, Flying High, and Soaringto Friday Celebrations!CIS is promoting monthly school widecelebrations throughout the school year.

Every Friday, students are eligible to take

part in a fun event to celebrate their positivebehavior. At the end of each month, CIS

organizes an extra special treat for students

to enjoy during these occasions. Those

students that displayed positive behavior and had minimal redirectionsduring the week were able to enjoy

Ritas Water Ice on September 28th

    .

Approximately three hundreddeserving students came to the gym

    and enjoyed their water ice.

    Meet Our New Staff

We are very excited to introduce the

newest member to our CIS team, Ms. Shanice Griffith. She is pleased

to join the EastSide community as the Public Ally to Communities In

Schools of Wilmington. Ms. Griffith is the CHOICE Coach and is

piloting a program new to EastSide Charter School. CHOICE stands

for Choosing to Help Others in our Community and Environment. This

program engages students in meaningful community service projects

and will serve as an alternative to suspension for select students. We

hope students will learn how to positively interact with members of the

school community and the community at large.
