Last summer, with the help of Doctors Without Borders, Olivier Kugler visited the Greek island ofKos to speak to refugees from the war in Syria. Koss proximity to the coast of Turkey, a mere two anda half miles away at its closest point, has made it a key transit point for migrants seeking refugeestatus in Europe. According to the United Nations, some 800,000 refugeesincluding nearly half amillion from Syriareached Greece last year by sea; more than 50,000 of them came first to Kos.

Olivier Kugler is an artist based in London. His work will be on view at theFumetto International Comix-Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland, in April.
